One of the greats of Australian motor sport racing. A pioneer and great face for Ford and later Mazda in Australian racing.

Grew up watching Allan racing in the 1970s, so charismatic and a great promoter of Australian racing and Ford in Australia.

Allan Moffat has been remembered as an icon and pioneer of Australian motorsport after the four-time Bathurst champion died on Saturday morning aged 86.

Moffat died surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

One of the greats of Australian racing, the Canadian-born driver won the Touring Car Championships four times between 1973 and 1983.

PS ABC muppet intern, that's a picture of Peter Brock racing that you used in the article (which they have now removed).

An icon of Australian Motor Sport. Moffatt, Brock and Dick Johnson were great names when Holden v Ford was worth watching.

I recently read an article where his son said Alan was in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's and did not recognise him so while sad news his passing is not unexpected.

I was pit crewing at Mallala when Moffat had his first race there in his white Lotus Cortina. He was seriously fast as a young bloke. I remember him 'urging' his pit crew to hurry up and change the brake pads which were red hot.

RIP Allan.

I note his son James was competing this weekend at Mallala in the Trans Am series.

Brock vs Moffat rivalry was great for motor sport in Oz and reflected other rivalries in motorsports across the world.

Seems you need one good bloke vs a villain - dependent whose side you took.

Vale Allan.
