If you have been to East Burwood's ground sometime over the past 20 odd years you will have met Barry Wenker when you entered the ground. Barry was the first person to greet you, take your money, give you your record and have a chat.

Barry arrived at East Burwood in 1962, played 112 games and was a premiership player in 63, 64 and 68.

Barry was a fiery wingman as many Vermont players would remember him, but a true gentleman in every other aspect.

Little did anyone know the enormous contribution Barry would make to the club over next 55 years, more than half club’s existence. Barry was a player, U16 and U18 premiership coach, coaching co-ordinator, committee member, administrator, sponsor, bus driver, gateman and volunteer for everything and anything. A life member, club legend and all round terrific bloke.

If you are lucky enough to have someone at your club like Barry, make sure you take the time to thank them for all their work and let them know how much they are appreciated.

The thoughts and condolences of everyone at East Burwood go out to Lois and family.

Vale Barry Wenker, one of a kind.
