Colin Jacobsen aka Col Joye, lead singer with the Joy Boys has passed away aged 89.
Col Joye, who appeared on Australian pop shows in the 1960s and 1970s was credited with giving the Bee Gees their first break when he signed them to a recording contract in the early 60's. Col Joye also had the first no1 single by an Australian artist on the Australian pop charts. That song was Bye Bye Baby and I once heard an interview with Col Joye in which he attributed that song's beat to the noise made by a typewriter.
More misty water colored memories this time of Col Joye, JO'K, Judy Stone, Brian Henderson's Bandstand and Six O'Clock Rock.
