"Liberatore went into that last pack optimistically and came out misty optically"

"The stadium holds it's breath.. "

A caller that had universal respect because he was that good.

Absolute legend of the game.

What's your favourite Cometti-ism?

I heard a rumour that Lil' Wayne was inspired by Dennis when he used the line:

"Real Gs move in silence, like lasagna"
I'll never forget 92 "Like a cork in the Ocean!"

Damn. One of the few AFL commentators who actually commentated well.. no silly **** ups or cringeworthy remarks about players. He actually made neutral games I wouldn’t otherwise care about bare-able to watch on TV.

Vale.

Best footy commentator, RIP.

He was also very good with the Olympic swimming. Plus he did a bit of cricket, written analysis for the papers and sports news reading.

Never heard a bad word said about him.

Remember the name: Y-Z-E – terrific young player, bad Scrabble hand

There’s Koutoufides – more vowels than possessions today

The Dockers’ defence is in disarray. Everybody wants to be Gladys Knight, nobody wants to be the Pips

I think it’s safe to say Lucas takes his right leg out there purely for balance

I swear if Ronnie Burns were building a house he’d start with the roof

A lot of talk these days is about ‘inside players’… if Simon Black was any more inside he’d be a pancreas

Just as Winmar landed, big Salmon came crashing down on top of him. They’re slowly getting up and now I can report the building has left the Elvis

I thought he was terrific because he just called the game as he saw it, but made it entertaining for the listener. He never virtue signalled or carried on.

He wasn't biased. People from all over Australia are saying how great he was. That proves it.

I do remember an article about him years ago about how much travel he did. He would be doing the Friday night game, maybe a Saturday game and then a Sunday game in WA. Rinse and repeat.

I remember he used to call in to some radio breakfast show - RRR? - and they would give him an unusual word to work into the weekends commentary, which he usually managed to do and they would play the audio clip the following week

****ing hell you genuinely mean this 🤣🤣🤣🤣
