We lost a great Australian today. Gough dragged this country kicking and screaming into the modern era, cramming so much reform and change into a helter skelter three years in office. Yes, he made mistakes, but he also transformed lives. Innovations in the arts, women's rights, indigenous rights, health care, university education, relations with China, pulling out of Vietnam. So much good work.

A friend of mine still has an 'Its Time' t-shirt from the 1972 election campaign. At dinner parties, after a few wines, we've been known to don the t-shirt and dance about singing 'Its time'. You had to be there.

Sad to see the passing of one of the greats of Australian politics, a man greatly wronged by not only his great friend John Kerr but even more so by the Australian voting public AKA the sheep - who voted in the bastards that manipulated the so-called economic crisis themselves.

A gentleman and patriot to the end.

Agreed CP Gough was a builder and a patriot - very few of them find their way into politics.
