Legendary South Australian football identity Ian Day has died, aged 90.
A member of South Adelaide’s last SANFL premiership team in 1964, Day is a SANFL Hall of Fame member who was a fine rover for the Panthers and West Adelaide from 1952-64.

That's so very sad.

I knew Ian well as we worked for the same boss but different businesses.

He was a genuinely nice bloke.

RIP Ian.

If you watched footy in the 80s/90s you certainly would have heard Ian Day calling games. Also a premiership player with South Adelaide in 1964. He played 67 games and kicked 80 goals for the Bloods from 1952-60 and 68 games and 98 goals for the Panthers from 1961-64, winning club goalkicking awards at West in 1956 (29 goals) and South in 1964 (35).

Renowned for the "what a balltearer" quote moments after the 1987 SA v Vic State of Origin game won by SA by 4 points

Just reading that Ian Day passed away at the age of 90. South Adelaide player and legend but it his media career that makes a connection to PA for me. Spent a lot of my youth listening to him call Maggies games and always liked his style be it radio or TV. RIP.

I cannot recall any hint of bias ever in Ian Day's calling of club football. Fair and balanced commentator who loved the game.

Yes, that was the great thing about Daisy he called it as he saw it. Those were the days when South Australians called South Australian footy. As I recall it Ian Day and Blair Schwartz had an on air partnership for several years calling the SANFL Reserves competition before Daisy moved up into league commentary.

If he kicks this I will walk to China.
