Also excellent to note that big Matty P was at the club today, speaks volumes for him and I hope in this time of grief that any possible wounds between him and the club are healed.

I agree with what has been posted previously that despite knowing John I feel very strongly about this. I've lost my grandma and a teammate of mine over the past few months and this is on par with those.

I also am 22 and I was in Vegas a week ago, The whole situation makes me sick to think about.

I haven't been able to put into words what today had been until now. It's just, surreal. I still feel physically ill. The whole morning I couldn't help but hope that it was a mistake, a hoax. It still doesn't feel like we are going to run out next season without #35.

jMac embodied everything that I think a Port Adelaide player should be, 100% commitment to the contest and the cause. He pushed himself to deliver the very best that he could. And from what I have heard, he was a ripper bloke off the field as well.

This isn't the sentiment I want my post to be remembered for, but something like this, and the gut wrenching, heart broken, reaction from both the playing group and the supporter base, is exactly why we are all Port Adelaide together. We lost a family member today. I certainly feel like I have lost a close relative.

RIP jmac, you were taken far too young.

I know it may be corny, but a few tunes to the late J-Mac. (He seemed like a music lover)

For life

For love

For rebirth

Forever

R.I.P Jmac, massive loss to football, will be sadly missed by all, condolences to the McCarthy family

Been sitting at my PC for over an hour trying to compose an email to a friend of mine among the playing group, have no idea what to say,

My heartfelt condolences to Johns family, his friends, the PAFC, and lastly to you guys

Vale John.

Just a brief note of thanks to the many Port supporters who have come to our board to express their sympathy and support. Please accept ours to you also at this difficult time. Your members have shown true class and John would no doubt have been very proud. May he rest in peace!

Johns Tragic Passing has brought together supporters from every club, a very sad loss to AFL Football. Im Extremely Sad since hearing the news, havent felt this way since the Day i heard Darren Millane ( Collinwood, Number 42, passed away in 1991, 42 has never been worn since..) had Died, both taken to early. This sad event makes you appreciate Life.
RIP JMac, you will be remembered for ever..
Maybe Port could Retire Johns number 35 for a while as a mark of respect to John and his Family?

I only just saw this news.....can't express how shattered I am, not with words on a page...

All I can say is that I'd had a really hard day up until that point, but when I read this, it just put all of that nonsense into perspective. Cause nothing I put up with today even holds a candle to what his friends and family must be going through right now...my heart goes out to them. :(

Rest in peace John.

Certainly doesnt feel any better this morning.

Las Vegas Coroner Michael Murphy said the holidaying Port Adelaide midfielder plunged 30ft (9m) from a roof.
He said a family member had identified McCarthy's body this morning and police were continuing to interview teammates, and witnesses.
Mr Murphy said that no other person was involved in the tragedy, and that it didn't appear suspicious in nature.
He said the investigation could take weeks to establish the cause of death.

Sorry for the intrusion guys, just wanted to add my condolences to the lad's family, the playing group, and all PAFC fans. He was a lad with a bright future in front of him.

Got to work today with the Advertiser on my desk, it's amazing how someone you have had no contact with can make you tear up like that. I just see the look in his face that makes me think he was a stand up bloke and then the excitement and happiness in his and his partners face makes it even sadder. Was numb yesterday but it seemed to of hit now. This is where we find out how strong our club is, through the toughest of times.
