The reported timeline was that John spoke to Dani at 4am, CCTV footage recorded him entering the Flamingo at 4.30am and he was found at 5.40am.

Now this is where it gets inconsistent. Yesterday's Vegas police report said there is CCTV of him in the Casino and he was only in there for a few minutes and it showed him exiting.

Now this is where I get lost. Did they have footage of him on the roof? If so how long is that CCTV footage of him on the roof.

Then they say there were witnesses. Where those witnessess who saw him jump onto the palm tree? Or are they witnesses to seing John's body on the ground.

I have read things that he jumped onto the tree and people saw him and an ambulance was called straight away.

I don't get it, either the reports are wrong with respect to the different times, apart from when the ambulance arrived to assist him, or he was on the roof for an hour.

I am a NSW League fan. I would like to pass on my condolences to all concerned on behalf of Cronulla Sharks fans. I think the tragedy has been handled with class by your club and fans. RIP John.

All the boys were out at a 'large' nightclub, Keith talked about 1000's of people being there. I guess this is the XS Nightclub. In hour for an hour, some boys got turned away, or pushed to end of line etc, so eventually they were all getting in at different times and became fragmented. So you can imagine 3 or 4 groups of boys in this massive club in several groups and hence not having a strong idea of who was with who.

I was at XS late last year. There is virtually no chance that a group of 4+ male footballers, let alone 10 of them would have received entry without either pre-booking a table or if they didn't have at least a 1-1 female counterpart, which supports the idea that their separation was induced by admission difficulties and not alcohol related (pre-XS); the fact John and others were let in supports the fact that they were still relatively sober. Seeing as they would have had no time to book a table having just entered the country I can easily envisage how a group can get split up, knowing how tightly they pack the club and without a common point of reference.

But obviously at some point some alcohol-induced decisions were made, and tragically the cards didn't fall JMac's way. It is sad that he will be remembered by some in this way, as it is only pure luck which stops the holes in the swiss cheese from lining up on nights like these for any of us. From all reports he seemed an honourable, genuine and down to earth guy and I am hopeful that this is how he will be ultimately be remembered.

This. We have all probably been a split decision or two away from a similar fate at some stage in our lives.

Honestly,

I don't know if its just me, but I have attempted to do some pretty ridiculous things while drunk and alot of them have involved climbing and the like, especially of tree's.

If I was in his position, it wouldn't have been out of the question.

Though I don't want to guess at anything.

I would have done it for sure, planning in advance how much of a legend I was going to be afterwards. In my youth I did many many stupid things while drunk.

Its just so sad for tomfoolery and shenanigans to end up like this.

hope people dont mind. I was at the memorial today about 5 am. The wind had played havoc with some of the stuff left for him so i spent 10 or so minutes putting it back in place and making it neat again. Apolagies if i didn't put your item back where it originally was. I tried my best.

The passing of John has made most people realise that life is precious and can't be taken for granted. I sincerely hope everyone on this board is ok and it is nice to know there are so many great people on this board willing to help each other out in bad times. take the time to ask someone if they are ok today as you never know they might really need some help.

Hope the memorial goes ahead at Alberton and is either at night or on a weekend. Chances are it won't be though. Sat morning would be good. People can stay at the club after and have a chat with others and bring the PAFC community together

Got this message from a mate last night:

It was amazing to see how much love and support our club gives. I sat by John's memorial for an hour. About half a dozen people came by to drop off items and then the Port club still had a fair few people in it at 11:30 when I left.

It just really hit me how special this club really is and I'm really happy to be a part of it.

maybe once up there he thought he would get into strife with the authorities for being up there, and in turn the pressure that it might place on the club through media and thus tried to not make a big deal of it?

This is what I was thinking, was he worried if he called for help and was found on that roof that he might be arrested and thus cause an issue with the media/club. Speculation i know....

That is great to hear. She seems like a really nice person. I have spoken to her on twitter several times in the past because of how their dog Jax looks very similar to mine as a puppy.

She always found the time to reply.

Report on the thread on the main board from the eyewitness who saw him land. Said it took about 7 minutes for the paramedics to even attmept CPR.

Thanks that makes more sense then and is consistent with the early reports of him being at the Flamingo for only a few minutes and witnesses seeing him jump.

I guess there are 2 theories about the locked door, one, the door shut behind him and was probably one of those self locking doors that should not have been left open and you can only open if you have a key on either side of the door, ie you stick the key in the lock the handle turns and lets you open the door but the lock is still locked. If he was pissed he could have shut the door without realising what he was doing, or the door could have been partly opened and he accidentley knocked it closed.

Or it could have been left open because some employee went on the roof for a smoke, John could have walked thru the door, it may have been half open, closed it either accidently or deliberately with out knowing it might have been locked on the inside. He then jumps and passes away. The cops may have taken a few hours to get there and someone else who had no idea what happened goes for a smoke an hour or so later and left it open, so when the cops get there its open.

If the cops took several hours to get there, they would need yo go thru several hours of CCTV footage to see if the scenario I have suggested happened, and that's only IF there is a CCTV in that small hallway

The strange thing about this is that if John had scaled down the tree safetly, later that arvo/evening or next day he would have gone with many or all the boys back to the Flamingo, shown them the roof and tree he scaled down, they would have had a good laugh about it and it would have become one of those great end of season trip stories. The boys would probably have given him a new nickname because of it. It really is a fine line sometimes.
