I have no connection to either the Port Adelaide or Collingwood football clubs, but damn this hurt.

Condolences to his family, friends and everyone at both clubs. Port Adelaide in particular are an admirably tight-knit bunch and I can't imagine how you all must be feeling; just know that the wider football community is behind you.

If any bigfooty efforts of condolence or donation do eventuate, i'd very much like to get involved in any capacity I can.

Like most of you, I felt terribly upset and sick. Unlike some players who leave for money or success, John just wanted a fair dinkum go.

I think you'll find no Pie supporters who didn't wish him well when he left because I personally was so happy to see him finally being played as a midfielder and not a forward pocket.

While your side can't honour him this week, we'll hopefully go out and show the same tenacity that he did when he played.

I think an idea of a memorial game would be great, with all donations going to his family (even if it is in the off-season).

Terrible terrible news. Condolences to his family. My nephew knows his girfriend and is pretty cut up about it.

Didn't log on to big footy until about 12-30 clicked on the alert and saw posts were in the Burgess thread about the weapon so responded to that oblivious to what happened. My phone was in a dead spot so didn't get the 15 or so txts and voice mails until I checked this thread and thought **** is this for real and made a couple of calls.

Saw the Fox News footage of some of the boys at Alberton and a couple were in tears. Hard to believe that I saw many of the players who are over in Vegas at the B&F on Friday and talked to a couple who were pumped about their trip.

It feels like our club can't take a trick at the moment. The guys in Vegas will be shattered and will carry this with them forever

I really want to pass on my condolences to the family, friends of John, PAFC and the supporters of PAFC.
To lose a player must be devastating and I feel for everyone who has a connection to John and PAFC. It is sad for a brilliant young man to lose his life so early. My deepest sympathies to all of you.
