I am deeply saddened reading this thread - but uplifted at the same time.

Port Adelaide has lost a great bloke, he was loved by the Collingwood lads and i know this will hurt them as well.
Met him at the Westpac Centre and he was a great guy, very friendly.
Gonna get down to Alberton and have a beer after work and pay my respect.
Think something should be done between both Port and Collingwood to remember a great bloke.

I have absolutely no idea what to say at the moment.... simply stunned into voicelessness.:(

Ive felt sick ever since I've heard the news. I've never met him, so I can't even begin to imagine how his family and friends feel.

Seems like a top bloke, and fitted in very well at the club.

Rest in peace. Way too young to go.

Hope his family and friends are able to cope with this as best they can. Thoughts are with them.

A club's hardcore supporter base get that little more connected to the players than anyone from the outside. So thoughts are with you guys and also the Pies fans who would've followed this man through the ranks, met him, supported him.

It's very sad to hear of anyone taken before their time and no doubt the PAFC will make sure the guys who were with this player receive all the support they possibly can.

Condolences to family, friends and PAFC. Very sad and does put footy in perspective.

Feel gutted.

Feel awful for JMac's family who have to fly all the way to Vegas. Feel awful for his teammates there with him. Feel awful for his mates back at home.

Thanks John for the year you spent at our football club. You will be missed.

And if I ever see that **** of a human being TradeDraft post anywhere again today, I'll probably end up with a red. Disgraceful comments.

This may not be the time for a football-related post and I apologize if my timing offends anyone, but here it is.

PAFC players, when you're on the training track next year and you're feeling tired, you think about how hard John McCarthy would've worked if he was lucky enough to still be around like you are, and you make damn sure you do the same. When you're on the field and somebody needs to make an option, you think about how John McCarthy would've pushed through the pain to make that option if he was lucky enough to still be on the AFL field living his dream like you all are, and you make damn sure you do the same. You leave absolutely nothing on that field next year, because you're incredibly lucky to not only be on that field, but just to be alive and well.

On a similar note, if John is somewhere looking down on us right now, then I hope he gets to see his old teammates at Collingwood win a premiership. That playing group has lost a teammate and friend just like ours has.

Absolutely terrible news. I'm the same age as John. 22 is way too young too pass away. I feel sick in the stomach at this news and I never even knew John personally. My condolences go out to his friends, family and Port Adelaide footy club. Rest in Peace mate ! God bless

nothing wrong with your timing mate. JMac was a bloke who gave it 110% and left nothing in the tank. Great post
