If there's any post within this thread (or on this board) that is in poor taste, report it and we will deal with it.

FWIW a few opposition posters have been using the 'Port Power' name in this thread but I've let it go because they've mostly been condolences and not a troll.

Yep I've let that slide as it isn't the thread for corrections.

I listened to KT on 5AA.

G Cornes asked him "Can you ever plan for something like this?", which I initially thought was in poor taste.

But I found the answer enlightening.

In KT's regular, steady demeanour, he said yes, actually we do have 'Crisis Management' Plans in place, and that every item of those plans had been put into effect on Monday.

He also acclaimed the Player Welfare team for their efforts, in particular Stewy Cochrane and his wife Rachael.

Sorry for butting in, but I also wanted to acknowledge the role your CEO has played in all this. I've just listened back to the initial interview he did on AA and he was all class. Seems like a quality professional bloke who's held his head high with some of the hardest curveballs any club CEO could ever face in his first year in the job. You guys should be proud of the way your people have carried themselves through all this.

Thanks Forza.

Apologies regarding the name, I actually didnt know that.

I hope those that make comments in deliberate poor taste receive a permanent ban.

KT should not being curve balls from the media, especially as its a police investigation.

I hope Port make a note of these people and when the time is right, give them the same level of disrespect that they showed them.

I just heard a KT presser on SEN that has just ended... heres some bullet points:

BOys got in during afternoon (I think) but rooms weren't all ready aso gear dumped in one room and they went out to look around/have a drink etc.

All the boys were out at a 'large' nightclub, Keith talked about 1000's of people being there. I guess this is the XS Nightclub. In hour for an hour, some boys got turned away, or pushed to end of line etc, so eventually they were all getting in at different times and became fragmented. So you can imagine 3 or 4 groups of boys in this massive club in several groups and hence not having a strong idea of who was with who.

Over the course of the night some boys left and went home to bed etc.

At some point John left, its quite likely not everyone knew he had left. But at some stage on his return to their Hotel (Hard Rock) he ended up at Flamingo and went in. Appeared on balconey/roof some time later, and it appears became stuck and tried to jump onto plam to get down.

Now he did call Dani, and apparently this was quite late, so close to when the incident occured. He wasnt in a bad mental state, but was disoriented and drunk. Told her he missed her etc, but Dani wasn't worried about his state of mind, rather she was worried about him being on his own. She DID contact another player (KT didnt reveal who), and that player DID manage to get through to John, and John told him he was on his way back to hotel and was OK.

It seems others all went to bed over course of night, and given they were split across multiple rooms, it wasn't noted that John was missing. (Completely understandable having been on numerous footy trips that everyone wanders back in their own time and crashes where they can).

Footage of him entering Flamingo showed that he was drunk, however no other significant weird behaviour.

After the presser the SEN guys talked about what sort of a star KT is and how magnificantly he is holding together. Basically said "can you imagine anyone handling a presser better in the circumstances" and comments like "he's a star", "how longs he been in the job etc).

He copped questions from journos such as:
* Has suicide been ruled out
* Why didn't players go and get him
* Were their drugs in the nightclub, will he be testing the players etc

Handled them all well, and put players off limits to media... all media goes through him.

It makes sense that he tried to get down if was stuck up there.

KT is a star.

I remember being on the Gold Coast for a footy trip, and watching boys climb over the balconey, and dropping down to balconey below a couple times to get back to the ground..... started about 5 floors up.

A couple beers and blokes start losing the sense of inhibition.

Yep was just thinking this. I've done plenty of things with a few froths under the belt I'd NEVER do sober. So trying to climb to the ground from a tree doesn't seem that far fetched, especially for an athletic guy.

This will probably make me stop and think before doing anything dangerous and stupid while under the influence in the future.

Just sounds like a series of unfortunate events really. Very sad.

A = where they were drinking
B = Where they were staying
C = Flamingos

He was only a km or so away and would have walked past Flamingos on the strip (and had to turn down that road to get to Hard Rock).

A fit, strong footballer like that, even when drunk, would have thought he could jump the metre to the tree and scale down. Probably thought worst case scenario is I get a busted ankle which he could come up with any excuse as to how it happened.

My team won a flag on the weekend, and I decided not to hang around for the Sunday/monday festivities, sat night was enough to set me back until yesterday. But the second this news came through about JMac I was on the phone to my brother pleading that he take it easy and not do anything stupid.
Being down the river, theres always the risk of driving, jumping etc type stuff. It was the first thing that crossed my mind. Thats the one thing that the JMac incident would have done, there would have been shivers going up spines everywhere with people thinking about their own actions.

Its sad and no doubt hard for his family, never being able to know what was going through his head. why he went in to that casino? why he went onto the roof? and why he didnt call for help but jump? etc etc

But as said above KT deserves a lot of credit

I hope plenty of people are getting around KT as well. He's been the face for us in this circumstance but we know of the connection he has with the playing group through his chats with Kane, looking after Pittard, it feels a little bit like understating it to say he'd be feeling this big time. I hope there's a time soon when he can take a most well earned breather.

Not to say he didn't leave Left from where they were drinking,

Went down the Las Vegas Blvd,

Got lost and wanted to find his Hotel. Went to the Roof of the Hotel of the Flamingo to try and see his accomodation, got stuck and tried to get down.

Thanks for posting Malibu. While all the players would be devastated, I'm particularly concerned about the player that made the contact with JMac. He would be feeling especially responsible (not to say that the other players don't have feelings of guilt). It's a very traumatising thing to be the last person to have contact with someone prior to their death. That said, KT's efforts since the news broke have been superb. He's protected the players, dealt with the media fantastically and kept open the lines of communication with supporters.

Unfortunately their collective mind sets will be mulling over the 'sliding doors' effect:
- what if we stayed in another hotel
- what if I stayed with John and he wasn't isolated
- what if John had turned down x street instead of y street
- why did John want to go into the Flamingo - a famous casino seen on many movies
- why did he turn left instead of right
- did I say the right things to John when I made the phone call
- why did he catch a glimpse of the door leading upstairs

Any change to these and other events could have resulted in a better outcome.

None of this can be logically resolved in their minds and this is why counselling is so important now. We have access to professionals in this areas and in Stephen and Jenny Williams, people with first-hand experience (unfortunately) of such an event.

This will be a long way back for some. They need to be in the presence of family, friends and teammates more than ever now.

What event were they involved in?
