Sorry guys it was in the "Let's push for Rd1 vs Collingwood" thread. I'm using Tapatalk so settings must be different. Here's what I wrote, others may have mentioned the same but I haven't read all posts.

"I write this post with the respect in mind of John McCarthy's family, friends and the football club who are grieving. It doesnt sit comfortably with me talking about ways in which to honour him so soon. But I feel some people are missing the point here with the call to honour J-Mac with a cup, medal etc. But this has the potential to be so much more than just a tribute to his honour.

I fully support a Rd 1 tribute match in honour of John McCarthy. I am comfortable for a cup to be named after him(his families decision) to be played for between Port Adelaide and Collingwood.

I think its an opportunity to have a week campaign led by the two clubs leading into the game raising awareness of excessive/binge drinking and its affects. The clubs community classroom as well as visits to schools by club players can be used to educate highschool children about the above.

I thought of an idea and think it is more appropriate but there is no reason both education processes can not be carried out.
The two clubs could play eachother in the final round of each season (doubt Collingwood would be happy with this) with an awareness campaign (others here would come up with a suitable name) aimed at state league, amateur league and AFL clubs alike on the responsibilities associated with an end of season trip/holiday with teammates. Obviosuly in due course our players could visit these clubs and teach them the importance of a responsible footy trip. The final round of the season is important as it is finals time/end of season for clubs.

Not only can we pay tribute to J-Mac but we can play a part in making sure such a tragic accident and waste of life does not occur at other levels of football in the country."

I'm not sure if this is the right place to say this but I'm hearing a young lad on a footy trip jumped off the roof of the port pirie hotel last night, believed to be aiming for a shade cloth. He is on life support now but believed to be too critical to pull through

It's such a shame that someone had such a reality check this week and a fresh reminder yet it wasn't heeded :-( I'm gutted to think such a similar incident could happen again?

Yeah it is not looking good the situation for that kid.

Would anyone believe that my boss actually came to me today and asked if I wanted the morning off to attend.

He knows how Port Adelaide I am. And he's a Crows fan!
That is brilliant.

Anyway lads, sounds like a lot of us will be there!

Robert Murphy just spoke on AFL360 about being in Vegas during and after the incident.

Basically the media got another thing wrong as it appears they tried to make contact and offered support but it wasn't taken up by the Port Adelaide boys.

I like that they said "we are here if you need us" Bob Murphy is a good guy.

Was never a big fan of Robert Murphy until I saw him speak on AFL360 a few times. Seems like a genuinely good guy.

Same. I thought he was Cleatus the slack jawed yokel.
