Dear members and supporters,

First of all, can I thank you all for your support and strength in the weeks following the tragic passing of our much-loved friend and player John McCarthy.

It is clear to the world how much of an impact ‘J-Mac’ made upon the entire Port Adelaide community during his time at Alberton.

To those of us attending the funeral service in Sorrento, we were once again reminded of what a magnificent club Port Adelaide is, and it made us feel enormously proud to see such a huge number of the Port Adelaide family turn out at Alberton to pay their respects to John. His wonderful family were simply amazed and overwhelmed by the love we have shown their son.

The past weeks have been really difficult for all of us, but together we have demonstrated the strength, unity and sense of community that underpins the Port Adelaide Football Club. Our challenge is to use these very difficult times to help us grow even stronger, as a playing group and as a club overall. I am confident we can achieve this.

To this end, as our boys quietly head off to spend important time with their families to reflect and recover, your club management and staff are getting back to business.

It has now been a month and I was just thinking how surreal it all is, as with anyone's death. Especially how JMac keeps getting mentioned in the list management type posts as an out.

I just hope his family, friends and team mates are moving along in their grieving process.

Dani has moved back to Melbourne, packed up the house on the weekend.
Her, and John's family were down to help with the move, and considering the situation are doing as well as can be hoped.
A group of players, staff and friends had a catch up on the weekend and it was a pretty spirited night full of a heap of good chats and laughs - everyone is very focused on how great John was, and not what 'could have been'.
The family, friends and players all have a lot of support from the club and outside.

Thanks for letting us know that. I had been wondering how Dani in particular was coping. It's good to know that they are all there for each other and are trying to focus on the good times with JMac. It's what he would have wanted, I'm sure.

Terrible to hear of another code losing a player to another fall. Reports that Jason Annear of the Sea Eagles passed away last weekend after falling from a cliff near Freshwater Beach, Sydney. Seemingly it may have occurred post their annual presentation dinner.

Thoughts to his team and his family also, we know as supporters how hard a time it would be for all who knew of him.

I doubt it'll happen. If everyone that died at the Flamingo had a memorial plaque it probably wouldn't be too appealing to the guests. It is a nice idea though.

If it was me, I'd rather a memorial at a place that I lived, not at the place that I died. Seems morbid.

Each to their own I guess. In my experience, it's a common thing but I'm Italian and we are generally morbid.
