He had good pace, could kick pretty well for goal, was a ball magnet and had a good fitness base

If he fixed up his field kicking a bit he would have been that link up player but also a bit of a line breaker in our midfield

So sad that he's gone :(

Primus' gameplan of slow triple switches and bombing long to big packs of 10 could not have been less suited to John McCarthy. Hinkley's run and gun handballing line-breaking style would've suited him far better. His kicking still would've needed work though, but we've had much better spread this season so that would've also helped a bit. I think he'd play a bit like Kane Mitchell does in the current set-up.

I was looking at the clubs senior list on the port adelaide website, they have John in there again. Has he always been there this year or have they added him again for this weekends final against collingwood?

Gus' bounce... He has always been here!

Thought about this today. Remarkable that we're playing each other in a final.

Best of luck to both sides.

I think a lot of us having been.....

I would love us to win this game for J-Mac, but it wouldn't bother me if Collingwood win also, cause I will follow them in the finals.....

How Ironic this game will be...... this game is a 50/50 cause I cant see which club he would be rooted for.... both clubs will use this as a motivation tool.

Perhaps it would be prudent to have t'shirts made for the game with 35 on it...

Would have #3 on the heart and #35 on the back!

Isn't it almost the one year anniversary this weekend? - if not, it might only be a matter of a couple if days. I know John's death occurred on a Sunday morning in the US, so Sunday night/Monday in Australia.
Remarkable irony in the schedule this weekend.
To make the finals but to play Collingwood of all teams.
Addit: John died on 9/9 US time

Game is played on 7/9 - wow

Astonishing isn't it. Would love to see something on the banner and/or the players wearing armbands.

Obviously losing in the first week would not be a pleasant outcome - but if it does happen, at least you guys will make it further and I can follow Port instead. Also gives me a reason to bring out the Port scarf I wore to the Eagles semi final last year after J-Mac's death.

I'll be behind Port 100% if we lose on Saturday night.

This Friday, it's 12 months since the club's B&F and the last time I saw J-Mac. Saturday is 12 months that he flew out with 10 buddies for their end of season trip. It seems fate we play Collingwood on Saturday. Monday will be 12 months that he passed away. Its still all a bit surreal.

Boak, Broadbent, Carlile, Ebert, Hartlett, Logan, Moore, Paul Stewart, Trengove , Westhoff the guys that went on that trip will probably be playing with a bit of burden on the weekend. 7 will be playing, Logan maybe and Ebo and Stewart are injured. I suspect 3 or 4 of the boys will put in very big games.

Robbo on 360 tonight said that the week should'nt pass without mentioning John, but said that maybe we should now be remembering all the good times he had with us rather than just remembering his death and showed a couple of pics of happier times. Liked that he mentioned him and the way he spoke.

Sorry for the intrusion but i must say the footy gods have set this up perfectly seeing what happened to John last year. One of those weird moments of coincidence and fate.

I never thought i'd say that i'm happy to see a Port vs Collingwood final but seeing the circumstances.
