The real test of a true comic is that jokes are not repeated. I have 37 books of his(including the movie book, mini-footrot flats and weekenders) and all the jokes are different.
Bloody Hell it didn't dawn on me yesterday that Murray Ball and John Clarke passed away within a month of each other. Clarke was the voice of Wal. New Zealand has lost a couple of comic greats.
I used to love reading Footrot Flats in the paper when I was a kid and young man. Loved the fact when I lived in Canada it was in the local paper.
Best/fondest memories:
- Horse the Cat
- The Dog ruining dates for Wal because his owner was ignoring him
- The Dog constantly lusting after 'The Bitch'
- The Dog thinking he was tough and full of bravado but was really just a scaredy cat
Just had a look at some online sales of his books and a copy of the second Stanley is selling for 44 pounds. There are some bulk sales of Footrot Flats books(about 20) offered for $150 or so. I would never sell mine, I might give them to my grandnieces and save on a Christmas present.
