Murray Walker, 'the voice of formula 1' and a well known voice in the days when the Australian Grand Prix raced through the streets of Adelaide has died aged 97.

Walker was the man who said spin spin spin when it didn't have any other meaning.

I had the fortune, more like his misfortune, of running into Murray Walker at the final Adelaide F1 GP.

We had a corporate tent along Wakefield St, near the C9 tent. Needed a p155 and there he was at the urinal. As a much younger GR is relieving himself, he says “spin, spin, round, round” to which Mr Walker responds along the lines of “it’s been done many times son”.

RIP Murray Walker

Spin, spin, spin, Murray. As an excitable sports commentator as you will ever find. The contrasting styles of Murray Walker and James Hunt made it very easy for a young impressionable REH to become an F-1 fan. RIP Murray.
