My old Gran said, "If you haven't got anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all".
This isn't the time or the place mate, I've no doubt there is going to be a bit of dirty laundry hung out out to dry over the next few days, and you can revel in that in any way you see fit.
But as it stands at the moment this guy got to the point in his life where the only option, as he saw it, was to kill himself.
That you choose to bring up the past right now speaks volumes about you as a person.

How many years has it been since LtD first got a red card (I'm assuming that's the guy that got the red up there, and the one during the test)? Why is he still trying to get back on here?

Just read how the suicide happened. Very sad for him to have to come to that decision. RIP.

Cant believe the short memories of some on here, particularly regarding the bile Roebuck spewed during that 06/07 Australia V India series....you would think he was the greatest scribe in the history of cricket from some of the comments thus far.

The least we owe the dead is the truth, so lets not sugar coat the man.

So because he has a diifferent opinion that makes Roebuck a poor writer/analyst of Cricket.

Yeah, a few people here haven't been able to help themselves. Sad really, but hardly surprising I guess.

As for the bolded bit, that is the thing I find particularly tragic about it, as my father committed suicide.

A person's state of mind must be very skewed when he/she gets to the stage that they take that option.

And, speaking from experience, the people left behind can really struggle trying to rationalize it and pick up the pieces.

^ Well ahead of the times he was

That was at the end of Australia's record tying 13 test win streak

^ THE LAST ONE THEY'LL EVER HAVE!

Think that Roebuck may have gone too far in his article asking for Ponting to be sacked as captain during the India/Australia series - He may have thought that in hindsight.

But the important thing is that when a measured and quality writer such as Roebuck produces such an article the world sits up and takes notice.

Makes you wonder that he did something illegal, and when the cops spoke to him he knew the facts would be too embarrassing to endure hence he took his life to avoid the humiliation.

Always enjoyed Roebuck's radio commentary work. He was never afraid to back his opinions in public and said things that weren't the flavour of the month. However, his comments about the Sydney test a few years back went too far. To balance that, he always held forceful and in my view correct opinions about Zimbabwe and that cricket should not condone what happens in that unfortunate country.

Nonetheless, it's a damn shame that he felt the only way he could deal with whatever problems facing him was suicide.

RIP.

The odd thing was, I was too busy last week and I went to sleep and didnt even listen to the ABC Grandstand commentary

I was only following cricket by watching it at the bar which was showing it on Fox

Seems like I missed the last time he was on

EDIT 1. this news has definitely cast a shadow, especially given its a Sunday :(

2. Whats going to happen to ABC Grandstand's coverage? Surely they cannot go on for the tour

Its been a hard year for the ABC and sports at the ABC, reading on the West Australian's interview with former commentator Glenn Mitchell (I cant believe Im calling him a 'former commentator') he also had some tough events this year.
It seems that the ABC has the knack to pick the talented, the gifted but they all come with 'quirks' :(

Hmm interesting turn of events and no doubt more information is still yet to come out about why he jumped. The fact he was questioned by police earlier in the day over something casts on ominous shadow over this.

What is truly sad about that article is the owner of Vex news using Roebucks death to seek revenge on the ABC and Fairfax who several years did enough expose on him to ensure he never get's to be involved in the political life he spent a decade setting himself up to control.

Nothing on any detail that was not a decade old and turning the editorial against other media organisations.

Poor form here Mr Landeryou, certainly no journalism present here.

If you had the guts you would have written that article while the man was alive.

Something serious must have happened for him to do this. Seems very spare of the moment. Really got to feel for his family. RIP old chap

Personally I dont care about the circumstances

When your time is up, its up

There is no concept of "he/ she could have lived longer if they..."

i haven't got much nice to say about him either. so i won't bother saying what i think about him

but it's rather sad news what has happened

Me too but i will say that i will never miss any perverted person who takes sexual gratification from spanking people who they took into their confidence. A bit like people who claim to be helping underprivilged when actually they are getting their jollies.

If the cap fits Peter ... wear it.
