He fought against cancer with the same passion he played his football. He gave it his all.

Rest in Peace Buzz. You will be missed.

I send my most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Broke the news to Dad as he was the first Carlton player he brought up to me as a kid when I wanted to know about older players.

He wanted to come back too but it couldn't be worked out (not his end or Carltons)

RIP Buzz

He said in an interview that he found out years later that Perth FC were demanding a trade payment. it wasn't that much, only $4000 - $5000. He said that if he knew that at the time he would have paid it himself.

The news that we lost Buzz has taken a bit of a shine off the win yesterday. But if the news is right, he watched the win and raised a fist at the siren. I think that we need to go all the way this year for the Buzz!

Go Blues!

I loved the Buzz and was devastated when he returned to Perth at the end of 83. As a young primary school kid, I wrote to him via the club in 1981 and was thrilled to receive a handwritten signed reply.

RIP

He came back and did a pre season before 86 season. He was training with Sticks, Braddles, Motley, Dorotich who had all just arrived.

Can't remember reason but was stopped from playing (transfer?) but imagine adding him to that group

Bit of irony that his mark and goals of the year were against the Cats

It takes nothing off the win in my opinion. I think the opposite. The boys did him proud as he was on death's door. Exactly the type of win, the grit and determination, with some brilliant moments that would have made him enormously proud.

Now may they go out this weekend and honour him with another determined Carlton victory.

A shame that Perth and Carlton couldn't come together on the clearance fee.

Such sad news. Trying to remember did the Buzz come over from WA at the same time as Kenny Hunter? What a fantastic duo to bring in!

Both joined the club in the 1981 season.

Yep, absolutely gutted about this. Was his name and number rear & centre on my duffle coat.
Adored the Buzz.
Watching him blitz at Princes Park back in the day was the highlight of my week.
You honestly didn’t know what he was going to do. Kick a goal from 60, stand on somebody’s head, run through someone….he could do it all.
Exhilarating player.
RIP Buzz, and thank-you.

i'm absolutely gutted ATM. Have welled up a bit.
This was the guy that made you believe in Carlton. He made you a Carlton supporter. He made you believe that Carlton could win from anywhere and could produce the miraculous. He was absolutely revered here in WA, not just for his VFL achievements.
Remember, this is a guy that kicked 7 goals in flooding rain in a pre AFL WAFL Grand Final. Like Kerna, in a losing effort.

I gotta get myself together a bit before I ring my old man and give him the news.

What a star and what a man. When i was doing some legal work for him a few years ago I used often to call from home in the early evening, being still working hours over in Perth. When he cottoned on to this Buzz would always ask if I was calling from home and if so would get on the phone to my teenage daughter to talk footy to her heart's content before handing the phone back over to me to talk business.

A true champ. RIP.

Yep. You can only imagine the joy I felt that year (as a 14yo boy), when as someone who has never left WA and loved both the WAFL and VFL, had my 2 favourite players join the VFL club I loved at the time. All my Xmas' had come at once.
Loved watching Buzz play. Truly one of the greats.
Really sad news and my sincere condolences to family and friends šŸ™

Buzza was my school footy nick name in his honour, and I was in the forward pocket at that Geelong game when he launched over Flannigan, he just kept going up literally standing on the big ruckman's shoulders! Remember him also launching one from the goal square up and over the Heatly Stand's roof and into the car park! Loved the old Buzza, amazing he was only there for 65 games!!
Vale Buz

A true legend, he added excitement which helped ignite the way they played in those years. And a great guy by the sound of it.

I hope the players and coaches hear about him raising a fist upon the win yesterday, that’s truly inspirational (for them I hope, as it is for me). vossy will appreciate that a as Carlton supporter in those times.
