I think with age Mike didn't convey that well. Reading his article I get the sense more that Wallsy being a country lad, teacher, etc fit more with the image of Fitzroy than of the image of the "rich", "big city" of Carlton.

Sorry to hear Robert has passed. I went to school with Robert a couple forms above and among all of his achievements he held the doughnut record for the most eaten at Coburg High.

I have to admit, a couple of tears were shed reading those tributes.

Chose his own time, surrounded by family, in his own home, overlooking the G. What a way to go.

I watched some old Carlton games recently which featured Wallsy and it made me realise how smooth and graceful a mover he was both across the ground and in the air. Supremely talented and tough as nails.
RIP great man, a Carlton legend through and through.

Vale Wallsy. Just 3 months older than myself - puts it into some perspective. I saw his first game and it was also Peter Hudson's debut. Who would have thought that skinny Walls kid would have such a stellar football career.

Robert Walls was one of my childhood heroes.

Champion player for the blues. A great finals player especially the 3rd quarter of the ‘70 grand final and in the ‘72 grand final when he kicked 6 goals.

Blues Premiership coach in ‘87 and could have grabbed another one in ‘83 with Fitzroy if that close qualifying final against the hawks went the other way.

Set the foundation for the Brisbane dominance in the early 2000’s.

He was a very honest and articulate commentator in the media. I enjoyed his comprehensive storytelling on his football life in his discussions over the years with Rex Hunt, Mike Sheahan and Sam Pang.

Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Wallsy.
