Sad to hear the news of the passing of former premiership player Roy West. Roy was a member of the 1963 premiership team.
He is survived by a very flambouyant son in Troy "Catman" West.
My condolences to all the West family.

Re: R.I.P. Roy West

Sad news to hear, played well before my footballing memories (mid 70's onwards) but was a great player by all accounts and a member of the famous 1963 Premiership side. Condolences to his family at this sad time.

Just a coincidence as well, in 2007 Joe Sellwood died shortly after the flag, in which Joel Selwood became the youngest Geelong premiership player as Joe passed on being the oldest.

And Roy passes, with unrelated namesake Trent West continuing the name in terms of being a premiership player.

Up to a few years ago, i think as many as 14 of the 1951-52 Premiership players were still alive, which was no mean feat given they were all by that stage in their late 70's at their youngest.

Sad to hear. My old man does a bit of shooting on Roy's place, I'll have to relay the news.

Re: R.I.P. Roy West

I have enough "maturity" behind me to remember Roy as a player.
No. 31, IIRC, Who's going to dispute that anyway??!, Tall lean FB type player, mainly in defence anyway. We had a tallish long kicking back line then, with Paul Vinar, John Watts and Roy West. Very dependable. Now with West and Peter Walker passing away, and Bobby Davis, 2011 has been a bit of a traumatic year for the 63 Premiership side.

Re: R.I.P. Roy West

Sad day, like Veedubs I remember Roy no 31 correct, wonderful fullback for his size, haven't we been blessed with a few beauties,West and Vinar kicking drop kicks out of the back line, you young ens don't know what you missed.
I'm misting up a bit here.

RIP Westy

Condolences to the West Family- though I am not old enough to remember Westy playing, I was told by his wife how much of a great playing he was she was my Kindergarden teacher - You will be missed Roy a Geelong Legend

Grew up across the road from the West's - a lovely family and a very good man - my thoughts are with the West family, and I am sure best wishes go out to them from Geelong people everywhere

I loved watching Roy play. He was smooth in the backline. A fullback of great quality. His dropkicks travellled as far as most players now dream of kicking. Fond memories.
RIP Roy
