There's an argument for Muralitharan, but Gavaskar is kidding himself if he thinks any Indian spinner is in the conversation, no matter how many great spinners they've had. There's Warne and Muralitharan who folk can argue over and then a gap to the rest.

Interesting that both have around the same bowling average when playing in India.

Only Warne gets a cross against his name for it though.

Muralitharan took over 100 test wickets against them at 32. So yes like Warney he struggled against them in India but he smashed them in Sri Lanka. Warne averaged 47 against them across all venues

So with these juice diets do they at least blend up all the skins so they get the fibre? or are we talking juice diets like that shit from the 80's/90's where people just drunk basically cups of sugar as their only nutrition for a few weeks? Crazy if that rubbish is actually back in fashion again.

Way I understand it Warne done a 14 day fruit juice cleanse on this occasion, eating no solids for 14 days and the piece I read he actually done up to 45 days in the past, which is crazy. The day he died was his first day back on solids.

Murali 105 wickets @ 32.62

Warne 43 wickets @ 47.19

How the f**k is that "around the same

Gavaskar has apologised for his comments via Instagram:

“Last week was a very traumatic time for cricket fraternity as in 24 hours, we lost two of the most iconic cricketers the game has seen - Rodney Marsh and Shane Warne”

“On TV, I was asked by an anchor whether Warne was the greatest spinner and I gave my honest opinion. In hindsight, that question should not have been asked nor should it have been answered as it was not the right time for any comparison or evaluation."

“Warne was one of the greatest players to ever grace the game. Rodney Marsh too was one of the greatest wicketkeepers the game has seen. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

Does not change his position on the matter of Warne vs Murali in terms of bowling success but acknowledges that focussing discussion on such a trivial matter in the scheme of things just hours after Warne's unexpected death was (and is) highly insensitive and inappropriate.

"that question should not have been asked"

Turn it up, Sunil.

You're a professional TV pundit, and have been in the public eye for about 50 years. Surely you know by now that there is a time and a place for an honest opinion, and just after a bloke has died, the right thing to do is to talk about the deceased in as favourable a light as possible. If that means you don't really answer the question, but instead go with a "well, his record speaks for himself, 700 test wickets is a wonderful achievement, etc", then so be it.

What a tool SG is. It's not about the sanctity of your precious opinion it's about expressing any opinion at this time. SG was a grafter as a batsman and bad sport (the Melbourne test walk off). I've never liked him as a player a person or commentator. Always biased. You would never be a tenth the player Warne was you bad sport.

Just watched a really nice tribute to warnie on afl360.
Didn't like his strong opinions on everything cricket. A bit too negative for my liking.
I don't wish death on anyone.
Shane Warne will be missed.
Vale Warnie
