Another of those mighty '60s and '70's teams has gone. TW was a rock as a player, he had the courage of five men and he played for his mates. A captain, a Mr Fix It type player trusted by his coach to compete wherever he was needed.

I remember Waters playing down back in the 1960s. He used to take these marks a la jeremy mcgovern. I used to like him and Ted Potter who always gave darryl baldock a run for his money. It wasnt until decades later that i found out that he originally played with the pies as a full forward, and he moved because of the arrival of mckenna. I just had a look and he was listed as back pocket in the 66 grand final even though mckenna wasn't playing. Ian Graham was at full forward. I can't remember but did BF hammer bob rose for not moving him down forward? Sad to see he died from cancer. He deserved a painless death. Remembering him through my childhood eyes, i still think of him as a soild fair footballer who always played the game in the right spirit.

Sometimes I’d see him on the tram going along Swan St heading to the MCG for a game. Maybe he lived in Hawthorn?
I’d nod just letting him know I knew who he was. He’d nod back with a smile.
It was nice. There he was an ex captain, best and fairest, multiple grand final player just sitting on the tram, still keen to go to watch his beloved Pies.

He was one of my favourite players, great mark and drop kick. He was a lumbering sort of player - wouldn't have thought he'd have been quick enough to play forward. Terry had the misfortune to captain the team in the unloseable GF in 1970. I seem to remember him sucking on a dart at half time when I once got into the rooms during a match. But memory may have done him an injustice. Vale Terry.

A true Collingwood legend and a player we were lucky to have. His arrival and instant success at full forward are among my first strong memories of the game. Later, his marking in defence saved us many goals and not a few matches. He was a player of character and someone a young Collingwood fan could look up to.

The best mark of a wet football I've ever seen, from the days before sticky resin to make the business so much easier. He marked overhead on days when it went through every other players hands like a piece of soap. He played as a ruck rover a lot, where his around the ground marking was his strength.

Was a great clubman, selfless, he played forward and back and gave his all. The first Collingwood captain I remember, he took over from Tuddy in 1970. After suffering an early season injury kept him out for many weeks in 71 he finally returned, but was struggling to regain form, so he stood himself down as captain in favour of Wayne Richardson (mid-season), as he felt he wasn't playing well enough to lead the side. The next year, (his 9th at Collingwood) was his final year before retiring.

Used to see him a lot in the AFL Members' reserve out at Waverley in the late 80s early 90s. I'm too young to have seen him play myself but my Dad always pointed him out and said how much he admired him and how great a presence he was in those unlucky teams in the 60s and 70s. He'd always give Terry a nod and would always get one back.

I always felt like we could stop anybody when we had Waters and Potter in defence. Shit I miss those days. So sad that Terry has passed. Rest in peace.

He played in three grand finals and lost them all- 4 points (64) 1 point (66) and 10points (70). He could so easily have been a legendary triple premiership player and premiership captain. Fate can be cruel.

Vale Terry Waters, one of nature’s gentlemen. Was a favorite as a kid growing up. Tremendous mark and one of the best exponents of the drop kick I’ve ever seen. RIP.
