Tonight's game was my first opportunity to have a look at this bloke. His poise under pressure really impressed me. Looks like you might have found a gem there.

Is he originally from SA?

From West Perth played a few senior games 1-3 a few reserves but mainly junior footy , impressed at the draft and played under 18 championships

He was under pressure most of the time when he got the ball. He didn't panic which is good, but he didn't really get the chance to get a clean disposal off in most cases.

I thought the Count showed a fair bit tonight. Very poised and uses the ball well. Another thing I absolutely love about him is that he puts his body on the line. He really got crunched a couple of times but that didn't stop him.

Stiffy assuming you were at the game. From a ground level perspective how did he position himself etc

The kid's got it alright. Nothing overawes him and he has great poise for one so young - the vital "it' factor.

I labelled him as a class player of the future after seeing him at one training run. Nothing I saw tonight has changed my mind. Quite a few more kilos and another 20 to 30 games and we'll have a classy little player on our hands.

The Count is the real thing IMO.

Very impressed with him tonight, goes in hard, keeps running all day. Does the 1%'s, couple of smothers, a good tackle or 2. Pinpoint accuracy, was very impressed with him tonight.

Positioning in what respect?????
I assume that is as in off the ball.
Watching TV only is very annoying from that point of view.

Originally from West Perth and was a standout in the Colts competition last season. Showed some excellent glimpses. Very composed and hit targets. Give him some time to put on some kgs and he will be a very good player.

Good solid senior debut by the lad. Seemed to pick up the pace of the game pretty well, was willing to go in and get the footy and showed real poise under pressure.

Early days yet and he has a lot of hard work in front of him, but a really pleasing debut by the Count.

If he keeps the work up I have no doubt he will be up to it and a very good player for us. :D

His posistioning from that aspect was pretty good. He positions himself between the player and the ball. I genuinely think this lad will turn into a very good player for. He still has a some improvement left in him and he could be the best player we picked up in this draft.

PerthCrow, I think you will like this lad in time.

Correct

Did he position himself so he was cutting the angles etc ... was he in front or behind the player he was standing, did he run with the play or did he stay still..all the off the ball stuff that shows desire knowledge good reading etc.

I remember watching MCleods first game live and my brother asked me what did I think. My answer was he was a little slow to the ball but his desire for the chase was great and he just needed to adjust his pace ..was it like that for Van Berlo?

He played mainly on HFF and he played in front. He reads the play well, times his leads well. He does know where to lead and when to lead and he does follow the play well. You got nothing to worry about in that regard. With his engine, reading ability and poise he should make a very good midfielder for us. Someone in my box compared him to Simon Black in the way he plays the game . I don't think his hands are as clean as Black's but not a bad comparison.

Cant see Simon Black in him at all.

From ground level i thought he looked, moved and played almost exactly like Brent Reilly. Very similar movements and placement. Was a touch slower than i thought he would be. Smooth movement and kick tho.

The Count will be great, he showed coolness under pressure, quick thinking and toughness. We shouldn't get to excited but .... I'M EXCITED :)

All he needs to do is get a bit stronger and work on his disposal, but he should be the real deal :)

Agreed - a smooth mover, very composed.

Amazing he can have so few touches and be lauded.

Yet a second year player would get crucified for the same number of disposals - the fickle nature of footy :p

Well, we do agree on this one Macca. He's very much like Brent Reilly in both movements and disposal. As you say, smooth in everything he does.

He's a long way ahead of Reilly at the same age though. It's been a long long time since I've felt so confident about a youngster being the real deal.

We've finally struck drafting pay-dirt. :D
