I don't think the club will take any risks with him. Probably won't play pre-season cup and will ease his way into the VFL. I would be happy with a handful of senior games in 2006.

It will be interesting to see how he recovers. I know afew clubs who did some tests, were not happy that it would heal sufficiently (Pies and WC) but I heard the Cats RM say they thought he would be fine.

I doubt Trav will be at 100% fitness-wise come Round 1.

As far as I know, he's still running now, and purely on that note, I'd suggest it could be awhile still till he hits full tilt in training. Until then, I can't see him getting into the team while at anything less than 100% health.

He should crack the line-up for the odd game during the season, but that's as far as my expectations go for him. If he can get a full pre-season around his belt next summer, then I'll crank up the expectations.

Sorry to provide a bit of cynicism, but let's see if he can actually play first. At full strength we've got a lot of good midfielders and small forwards, and even though they've given him number 5 I wouldn't pencil his name in for round 1 just yet. If he burns in the preseason or reserves great - stick him in, but make sure his form warrants a place first.

I don't think anyone has said otherwise.

Quote from Bomber in today's Age:

Bomber said:
We probably won't play him early in the year. He had that foot problem, so we really feel like we need to let it heal and not rush the boy, give him a bit of time to find his form in the reserves and then we'll probably play him," he said.
Makes it sound like he'll definitely play seniors at some stage. Bomber also said he'll be at least as good as Aaron Davey.

I didn't like this quote. Davey is no superstar, and whilst he has come on well, to aspire to his level is not what you want an 18 year old to do.

Well, he actually said “he’ll be as good as Davey” but the subtext of the quote was that he thought he’d be much better. I think because he’s a genuine midfielder not just a goalsneak.
