Varcoe may be out.

COLLINGWOOD star Travis Varcoe has rushed to Adelaide to be at the side of his sister, Margaret, who is fighting for her life after a sickening collision during a women’s grand final.

SA Health has confirmed a 27-year-old female is in critical condition after being rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital during the division two Adelaide Footy League decider between Angle Vale and Mount Lofty at Thebarton Oval on Sunday.

Ms Varcoe, an Angle Vale player, was hospitalised after an accidental collision with a teammate during the game.

Angle Vale officials would not comment, but Mount Lofty secretary Johanna Paddick told The Advertiser the incident was traumatic for all who witnessed it. Paddick said the game was stopped for about 10 minutes while the woman was attended to.

“I did see it, but it was right over the other side of the oval,” Paddick said.

“It was just terrible and very distressing.

“It’s just a terrible injury and both teams’ runners helped get her off the ground.

“We just wish her all the best and it’s not what we want to see happen, ever.”

In a statement, the Adelaide Footy League said that Varcoe was conscious and able to leave the field after the collision. The league said she collapsed in the change rooms and received immediate treatment before being rushed to hospital by ambulance.

The other Angle Vale player involved in the collision suffered a fractured cheekbone. Mount Lofty won the grand final, 5.4 (34) to Angle Vale 2.7 (19).

Collingwood said yesterday that Varcoe was back in Adelaide this week with his family. A Pies spokesman said the club’s thoughts were with Varcoe and his family. Collingwood does not play until Saturday week against West Coast in Perth so there is no pressing need to consider his availability.

Best wishes and blessings to the family.

The fragility of life, nothing more important than the health of our loved ones.

Be well all Varcoes.

Just like to add my heartfelt best wishes to Margaret Varcoe and the friends and supporters of the Varcoe family.

Travis was much loved at Geelong by most and I have no doubt the Geelong club and supporters are praying for a full recovery.

Doubt he'll be ready to play in the final, but for his sake I hope you guys can win in WA....all the best to you.

Terrible news, but hoping there becomes the good news that she makes a full recovery.

Thoughts are with the Varcoe family.

Gee, it’s a poignant reminder about how serious head knocks can be.

Positive thoughts, and the love of the Magpie Army, and the Geelong faithful, are directed to the extended Varcoe family.
As stated earlier, life is fragile.
Don’t put off what you need to do today.
Don’t be afraid to tell those who need to know of your love for them.
Live life full, don’t leave anything on the field.

A stark reminder of the risks that can come from playing a game of football and offers perspective on our clubs injury misfortune in season 2018.

That situation sadly can always be far far worse.

Let's hope good fortune shines upon her and she possesses the same fighting spirit of Travis.

Side by side with the Varcoe family.
