I love that the defense from his one supporter of late has been a soft implication that there isn't a problem. It never goes further than that, because the position is indefensible.

Nothing new is being said in critique. We're not being presented with fresh analysis. With that in mind I can find more productive uses for my energy.

Critique: VB can't mark, kick or handball a football properly
Analysis: he appears to be technically and mentally deficient when it comes to the game of football
Hammer of justice and truth: Nearly every time he hits a target it's the wrong one.
Rebuttal from Southerntakeover: LOL it's because he is actually ahead of the game, he is already thinking three possessions down the track and his team mates simply don't react quick enough, giving the illusion that they have been sold into trouble.
That was your defense of the man in 2011. Soon as I read that - after laughing for a good hour or so - I knew we had a young man fond of vB to the point of absolute irrationality on our hands. A golden chestnut though, I still reference it at games a bit, to the delight of surrounding fans. You're a cult hero

It's all relative. When you look at some of the leagues other captains, that's when Van Berlo starts to look really bad. He's not our worst player or anything but his form is so mediocre he should be treading thin ice but the club can't even drop him. It's so pathetic knowing that your club is hamstrung by its own bullshit policies. We're almost as bad as Cricket Australia.

Leigh Colbert left Geelong after being made captain. Went to North Melbourne for a better offer. He was coming off a knee reconstruction. Geelong were absolutely ropeable and said that it showed complete disrespect for the club and the honour he'd been given.
As for a club ditching their captain though - can't think of any.
Whatever we think of VB's future, there is no way you should ever trade your captain out. Just looks horrific, like a club going back on its own best judgement.

I have been saying that VB is the luckiest 200 game player I have ever seen. The only thing he does is throw his body around like a rag doll. Is not a natural sportman and just has marathon fitness. Is shocking in traffic- like a deer in headlights and has little or no lateral movement. Kicking is atrocious when there is any perceived pressure and constantly gives up the ball by handpall when in a pack situation. Why this guy ever starts in the guts is beyond me and has been for eight yrs.

Okay, I've hit a nerve.
Is it to be understood that you stand by your argument? That VB is simply thinking too quickly for everyone out there, that he's ahead of the game and his team mates can't keep up? This was your "comprehensive" response when pressed originally.

As much as i dont rate VB as footballer, he does actually take some pretty decent marks.
On the other hand....
His kicking skills are bloody terrible. Unlike a Dangerfield or Sloane who are kicking under pressure or running at full pace and tend to shank a few completely, VB kicks nice and straight, but often straight to the opposition, into the outstretched arms of the opposition, or along the ground.
Excellent fitness and poor skills aside, he has sub afl standard awareness, and always will.
He gets smothered more than any player iv ever seen. He trails his opponents from a standing start constantly. For those who parade his prowess as a so called 'Tagger', actually watch how often he is a split second behind either his opponent, or when his team mates are running forward. He over commits to tackles CONSISTENTLY, while managing to mess up the gimmes.
He just isnt a good enough tagger to justify his low output onfield.
However, lets all see how this rotation cap debacle unfolds before he talk of trading or delisting VB ay?
Players of VB's fitness standards may well prove invaluable.... just saying

Just an honest player with no outstanding abilities. With his lack of hurt factor and impact he wouldn't be a walk up regular in any of the current top 4 teams.
