what a s**t season, with no real development. crap vent but its mad monday so who cares
Yeah bad season but I wouldn’t say no development. I think we got our forward line sorted, to an extent at least. It’s the right mix finaly, just needs a good preseason and more experience, which will come. Needs better delivery I50

I see it more as a disappointing season rather than a bad season.
We have, regarldes of what some say, improved as a team in 2023.
We shed some dead wood that would have held back the development of some players like Sturt, Henry, yes Henry, Wagner, Worner, and of course, over the last two weeks, Tom Emmett, and a few others.
Of those that went, maybe only Acres could have held a regular berth in our 22.The rest were never going to tie down a spot in the 22.
We showed we can mix it with the best when we are working together. We showed we can play the MCG, which is vital.
We had a hard draw this season and will learn from that experience I am sure.
We still fielded most times during the season, the second youngest team in the competition. We had four players named in the best under 22 team,Serong, Young, Jackson,Amiss.
Bad year... nah I think not.

Yeah you’re probably right, I sad bad mainly because of the way we lost some games but I agree, disappointing is probably a better description

There was progress.
But all my frustration isn’t on Jl or the coaches. It’s on the list management.
Acres, Lobb, Logue, Tucker, Mundy, Meek all leaving really really hurt.

Henry wasn’t ready early, NOD was awful this season, Hughes sucked on the wing. No back up ruck for Darcy- meant Jackson had to ruck all game with Treacy back up. That’s absolutely pathetic and even ups the potential for injury for both of them.

Amiss is a second year player developing for a rebuilding team and had to kick 41 goals in Lobb’s place.

Expecting Jackson to come in, which he actually did okay as season progressed and kick 30 goals. Absolutely short sighted.

This was a rebuild year, be nice for Bell and co to admit and treat it as such. Inexperienced team most weeks.

Name me one of those that you have mentioned that would have been a walk up start in our best 22.Acres I will give you.Maybe Lobb, but with Lobb we don't see progress and fulfilment of the likes of Sturt and Treacy.
Where does, or would Logue Tucker and Meek fitted? Remember that Meek can not get a regular game at the HAwks.Treacy playing as second ruck has allowed him to gain confidence in his ability to play at AFL level.

We progressed plenty this season.

That’s the thing. There was progress, but it was a rebuild and players getting used to playing together.
Treacy, Sturt took time to acclimatise with Amiss.
Acres definitely is B22, and Logue adds better options down back.

Actually thought Cox forward with Hamling and Pearce should’ve been tried earlier in the season perhaps mid season, but reluctant to do so due to Cox’s desire to be CHB.

Hamling did a job in the games he played. Just the coaches were afraid of Logue-style forward for Cox, when Darcy went down.

Logue couldn't get a game down back.He was made a swing man.He was used more forward than back.
He had no place in the team.

He would've played in place of Hughes for the majority of the year.

But once again only because Chapman was injured.

He's not a b22 on his own merit.

I wouldn't think so. Two different positions.Griff could never play wing or HBF.
So many under estimate the role Hughes plays.

The amount of whinging over players leaving is just so over the top on this forum that it's ridiculous.

Players are going to leave, get over it. We'll just replace them, there's always someone to step up and take a free spot. Henry leaving is going to suck, that's life though. It just means that Frederick or O'Driscoll for example are going to have to step up and fill that role.

Afl article saying we missed a great opportunity with an easy fixture

Pffftt.

Collingwood away
Melbourne away
Adelaide away
Swans twice
Brisbane twice
Giants away
Saints away

6 out of the top 8 finals teams, we played away.

P*ss right off
Plus last year’s premiers twice, including, of course, at their home ground where they never lose (except to us and GWS).

The amount of people arguing with people upset that players are leaving their club is so over the top it’s ridiculous. Everyone here wants what’s best for our club, and people are allowed to be upset at players leaving.

Get off your moral high horse.

Both grand finalists twice tbf
All of last year's top 4 away (so 4 away games; 2 home games)
Double ups against both 6th and 8th

Rough end of the pineapple for sure

You have to deal with players leaving though, that's the point, there's always going to be someone who thinks that the grass is greener on the other side. The best thing as a supporter to do is to always look on the bright side of things, it means that another player now has an opportunity to step up and take their chances.

No the best thing to do as a supporter is be irrationally emotional in the moment and the reflect on it objectively two years later.

Jokes aside, agree to disagree. The Hogan trade a few years ago when we gave up on him so quickly hurt more than most trades for me so I learnt from then on not to invest in players leaving.

That’s funny bc the Hogan trade for me was the one I was most indifferent on. Obviously he was having a bad enough effect on the rest of the playing group that we were happy to give him away for nothing, and if it was that bad there’s no way I want that player to stay at our club.

The issue was trading him in in the first place.

This club continuously gets ****ed and make silly decisions with trades.
Henry goes to the bright lights of Melbourne. For what reason?

Developed him this season ahead of Acres not being worth a contract. Jokers
What reason does he have to stay? He can play in the small town of Perth for a bottom of the ladder team or go to the bright lights of Melbourne and play for perhaps a better team?

Considering all of the signs point to either a Hawthorn or North Melbourne move, I don't think him going to a better team really applies.
