We are irrelevant to the rest of the competition, and when we're not irrelevant we're the comedy relief, people either don't think about us at all or they just feel sorry for us and "barrack" for us as their "second team".

The only time we've ever been taken seriously as a club is when we gave Mark Harvey the boot and then signed Ross Lyon. That 2012-2015 period is the best in club's history and we didn't even get a flag out of it.

I love this club but far out it's a detriment to the mental health sometimes, all I want is any semblance of success, anything, that's all I want.

I know I put this in the game review thread, but it's still annoying me.
In the 1st quarter (I'm pretty sure) Collingwood player A had the ball on the boundary in our F50 (his D50). Frederick was about 30-40m down the boundary 'guarding space or 'zoning off'. Collingwood player B was 20-30m from A on the same boundary line. I shouted to the TV, 'He's going to kick it to him Frederick, man up. He didn't. A kicked to B. THEN Frederick jogged backwards to be 30-40m from B. Daicos just moved straight into the space that Frederick left and received the kick from B.
Collingwood moved the ball 50m down the wing with 0% pressure and Frederick literally creating the space for them to do it.
Just appalling pressure by the player and even worse direction from the coach to do it.
There were dozens of examples like this through the game.
Players just making terrible decisions, and I assume because they're told to take that option.

He has kicked 9 goals in wins and 1 in loses this year.

He cheats forward which looks amazing when things are going well and disgusting when they're not. Needs to be dropped.
 
The game plan is clearly broken when we have slow laborious play with so many inside 50's but allow the Magpies to have so many marks in our forward line. If JL is let go at the bye and Graham gets the rest of the season to be caretaker while we secure the next coach what would be the changes you would like to be made. For me, the obvious ones are:

  • Get all players to play on from marks, free kicks, etc at all opportunity. Move from the slowest ball moving team since they have recorded stats in the AFL to the number 1 play on team.
  • Drop Freddie, Switta, Chapman, Ryan and Cox to Peel for a few weeks and play Erasmus, Narkle, Draper, Simpson, Aish, Brodie, McDonald. Players like Cox, Ryan, Frederick, etc. have become too comfortable that they will get picked every week they are available.
  • Instruct Reidy to throw his weight around, tackle, harrass and knock balls forward with intent for 3 weeks in the WAFL before bringing him into the AFL instead of palming to the opposition and not using his size. If he doesn't do this he gets delisted at season end.
  • Focus on employing a tackling coach for all forward line players with clear KPI's on tackles inside 50's, stoppages inside 50, etc.
  • Stop playing our 3 talls as the deepest forwards with the shortest half forward line in the history of the game. Amiss to come up to the half forward line to roam around the front half.
 
Dont get me wrong we are absolute poo but i have noticed a few times this year (playing Eagles and Richmond namely) the commentators have referred to the oppo teams as young and inexperienced.

Arent we the 17th youngest and 17th least experienced side on average for most of the year? Is this commentators just making excuses for other sides but we dont get the same?

i guess the fact we are so insignificant to many might be the cause or the fact that our leaders are still quite young but seemed to have been around for a while.

Its no excuse but it shits me

We are in our 10th year of a rebuild. We can't have excuses any more.
 
That any fan was "proud" or happy with the game last night, we played a team with tired old legs on a 5 day break + travel. They didn't just rest a bunch of players they also rested players in-game. Sidey who other than Daicos has been their best mid played 47% TOG. Oh and we were at home.

This game was 100% lost in the coaches box, how we came out at 3/4 time and played an even slower game style is actually ****ed. That is instruction and it looks boring to play as much as it's boring to watch.

Another vent to myself. I promised after going to the game last week that I wouldn't let the result/style get to me...but here I am yet again caring. I am as pathetic as JLo is at coaching.

**** this club and **** the fact that we are going to stick with this coach for too long because he once kicked a ball for the club. Time to logoff for a good while.

Yeah. If you watch Freddy he is always waiting on the outside like a seagull waiting for a dish out. Maybe that's what he has been instructed to do if there's others around, but issue is when he is in isolation and it's his time to go, he doesnt

The messaging coming out from the club over the pre season was so far off the mark its actually disgusting.
Clearly it's a case of the blind leading the blind to the bathwater, while everyone with a set of eyes and half a brain is getting increasing bewildered.
The players don't believe in the game plan. Why would they? 17 teams are getting better every week while we go backwards.
I was on the fence with JL two weeks ago but I'm 100% convinced he needs to go. Like Right Now.

It’s really worrying - listening to the party line across Pearce, Jlo, Garlic and Brierty is awful stuff.

if I hear one more time about being predictable and slowing things down I’ll lose it.

Six seasons in and the players still don't get the game plan. That is a damning as it gets, especially if this kind of info is starting to leak.

The Saints moved Ratten on for similar reasons despite publicly backing him ( and extending his contract IIRC) shortly beforehand. Not sure our board and CEO have the balls to do it though.

What season was that Brisbane game in the wet when we had been under the blowtorch all week and then the players came out handball happy and attacking and said ‘this is the way we want to play’ (we lost admirably from memory)? All blurs into one.

Point is the players have never had much of a clue under jlo. The latest changes (slow play from backline mixed with fast handball chains on turnover) has just made it worse.

The constant talk of predictability to each other by the players says that in Jlo’s mind they are not mapping the game plan, and if they did it faithfully and were ‘predictable’ to each other then all will be well. This is his messaging to them.

The issue is that they cannot play to the plan Jlo you flipping idiot. You are whipping a dead horse. The great teams of modern footy generally play pretty simple surge footy and have unified buy in.
