Fremantle, after 17 rounds:
2024 - 10 wins, 1 draw, 5 losses.
2025 - 10 wins, 6 losses.

You may not have realised this, but we have actually gone backwards this season.
I was saying this last week, but everyone told me to celebrate the coach because we scraped over the line against St Kilda.

A few wins against sh!t teams papered over the cracks, this team under this coach have gone backwards.
He’s into his 6th season, something has to give.

Maybe it's the personnel but I'm not that impressed with Joel Corey* as our midfield coach. I feel that even with Serong getting taken out of the game we should have enough size and grunt in there to be more competitive. It shows you that we are desperately reliant on Hayden Young and the idea that we have the luxury to move him to HB are too optimistic.

*Apparently in the running for a senior gig at the Saints if they sack Ross. will lol if true.
*That's Corey Enright not Joel Corey.

But I thought we need to concentrate on WA talent in the draft??

Yeah you are right. It’s bleak reading now in hindsight 🥺

Absolute shocker. If we nailed that draft we'd nearly have a premiership side already - imagine Young/Brayshaw/Serong receiving actual support in the middle, and Treacy/Jackson being serviced by a strong, supporting lead forward.

Reckon Walls gets pumped up too much personally.
Ras ???? Wasn't a top 10, but we reached.
Logue wasn't a Top 10, reached again

Logue was a Brad Lloyd pick wasn't he?

Fox showed the players milled around the screen pre game watching a highlights package of Boltons 150 games

So he takes the field thinking " I am the GOAT" and battled to carry his swollen head around in the first half...

Couldn't believe they did that!

Gulden trying to get it to the boundary and cox trying to mark, it was pretty embarrassing

Absolutely, Cox has been a massive liability for all of 2024 (when he played) and most games in 2025. He started to look better when given the responsibility of the backline in Pearce’s absence.

They don’t gel well IMO. Particularly when Pearce decides to defend from in front so aggressively and continues to do so while our midfield are torched, conceding an enormous amount of uncontested marks over the back.

Clever backman would sit back shoulder to halve contests while the midfield are losing.

I think our defense is quite fragile. It relies heavily on midfield dominance.

I don’t think we have premiership key backs. They suck unfortunately. Pearce never fit and same with Cox.

I still think this team lacks mongrel .Still way to polite.
The last few weeks has shown our mids are too small and get tagged or kept quiet too easily. Serong, Brayshaw, Bolton, Wagner are all small and get bullied by the bigger midfielders. We desperately need a couple more bigger bodies (Young, Omeara, etc. and not Brodie) to help them out.

I’ll go with the obvious one here … Amiss’ goal kicking routine.
Fundamental issues:
1. Bending over to touch toes before run up
2. Varying momentum
3. Too close to man on the mark

The first sounds stupid, but if anyone has actually done this when you’re gassed it makes you light-headed and in no way helps you kick straighter for goal - ditch it.
The momentum variation we understand, short kick = short run up. What he needs to improve is the momentum at the point of kicking.
Following the above, half his momentum problem stems from the fact he gets close enough to touch the man on the mark. FFS who is coaching this kid ??

Basic things, still not being improved

The SCG is a ground whose dimensions are only suitable for AFL X…
This,
The advantage Sydney have on their home deck can’t be over stated. The ground is a one off a kind. They play on it they train on it. Name any other ground where a player can kick a ball from the centre square and it lands in the goal square

Except before yesterday the swans were 2 wins 5 losses there this year (wins over GWS and Carlton).

I wasn't able to watch the game and don't want to but can anyone tell me WTF?

It seems another team can tag Serong, Clark, Bolton and Brayshaw (mostly) yet still have free players to run in chains down the corridor.

Yet we can't assign someone to run with Gulden who was apparently cutting us to pieces?

I mean did they have extra men on the field? How can we be so comprehensively out-coached for an entire half?

I can understand talent prevailing over less talent but how can they take our 4 best players out of the contest and still have their prime movers running rampant?

Its called work rate. A lot of our players dont have it

Man people bang on about this when it just isn't a big factor any more.
I'd write it all out again but this article sums it up nicely - it's not that short!

The ball spilled out but he couldn’t mark over Gulden. That sort of mismatch won’t happen too often and should be easy to take advantage of.
It was one of the few Cox hasn't taken in that scenario this year.
I think it was Alistair Clarkson who talked in the media about it earlier in the year that all the coaches know Freo will do it, so it's extra frustrating when we do it successfully.

It was annoying but you don't ditch something because it failed once, particularly when it's been a good occasional tactic.

Part of the answer to how they can chop our 4 best players out but still have their best prime movers running rampant is that they play role players on our better players. This leaves their better players more available to get involved in getting the ball forward or into dangerous positions. Conversely our role players tend to guard grass on a zone defence set up.
The other thing that can happen is guys playing tagging or run with roles get taken to the coalface of the game by the players they are looking after. If the tagger can halve the contest once they are there then it's a real win for the tagger.
We need to address the fact Serong and Brayshaw are being negated as a priority.

Have you considered tying a weight to his waist and getting him to tread water?
