FFS would you please at least make a token effort to stand up for your teammates. Show some pride in the jumper, show some respect for the supporters who back you.

Whoever decided that they should have a stand and clap during the first quarter deserves a bake, stupid stupid idea to interrupt the game in the first quarter with some clapping. No disrespect intended to Milli’s family and friends because I imagine it was the club’s idea. And it was a really dumb idea, epically stupid.
Totally disagree about your comments on the standing and clapping, that and raising over $200k for the Starlight Foundation was the only positive for the night. Sometimes there are bigger things than just the game of football.

Tucker needs to get out of defense. He's not good at it.

One of the few goalkicking mids outside of Fyfe and Waltes we have. Stick him back in the middle or trade him.
If you want a mid that will give one game of 20 and 2 followed by 3 games of sub ten and zero knock yourself out

Yeh nuts to say that was a bad idea !
Temper your emotions and expectations people

Yeah noted, I've bagged him for inconsistency many times, but at least he can be good there and he might gain the consistency over time. We have about 10 defenders better than him though which is why it baffles me that now most are available, he is still back there.

The fact we could legitimately have a starting fwd structure of 1 KPF who is 18, surrounded by journeyman smalls, a former WAFL mid turned medium sized something, and a 19yo winger/HFF turned into a small fwd since being drafted is an indictment on the list build

I believe he's one of those players that needs a "lure" to stay mentally engaged in the game.

This effort is the type where the president would have every right to storm into the rooms, lock the doors and read every active member of the team the riot act. The performance by each individual (Darcy excluded), on a national stage, on a night remembering a brave little girl who knew how to fight, when members turned up with some real hope for the first time in years, 35k in the rain, with a chance to start to cement a finals spot, was nothing short of disgraceful. No aspect of our game was even near good enough. Players receiving handballs had them either behind them or at their feet and when they did hit a team mate they dropped it. This is what I expect from my U/10's.
Not sticking tackles, not making it to the contest. Just basic things nearly the whole team failed at.
They had 120 more more possessions than us (almost 50% more) and 12 more tackles (about 30% more). This is just pure lack of effort by each individual, plain and simple. This is about the players demanding more from themselves as individuals. Until we have that we will continue to go nowhere.

So you're telling me the cheer for Millie is what distracted the Freo players from performing for the next 105 minutes? LOL!

I am saying the club didn’t think it through carefully enough. To me it was clear that it disengaged the players in that moment. A moment when we were still in the game. That does not give them a free pass for the rest of the game.

I am not having a go at supporters wanting to get involved, or questioning the merit of acknowledging people who are important to the club.

I’m all for a good vent but venting at the crowd standing and applauding at the 14th min mark? That’s just a sh*t take. Quite easily the best moment of the night and one of the moments of the club.
I agree with you. But this is a vent thread where people are going to write some pretty outrageous stuff about what they're thinking or feeling at any given time. I would've thought the purpose of such a thread is that people can feel safe 'venting' without the criticism of others. Like Bay 13 on the main board. If you come here expecting 100% sane posting you're in the wrong place.

Given 24 hours to have a think about it.

No doubt our game style is not really suited to wet weather as we have small, faster types than the big bodies. Conversely, Geelongs game style and personal is exactly suited to the weather.

1. Well done to Geelong who performed bloody well and changed their game to the conditions.

2. We fell down badly - and it was mainly to do with not changing our style dependent on slippery ground and ball conditions. We just didn't have the brains to work out that this was not the night for a chain of handballs, or too much turning and dodging. Look at Geelong, they consistently sent the ball long to the hot spot 25 metres from goals, brought the ball to ground and got to work. I won't say we would have won the game if we had of adopted this tactic but we would have got a whole lot closer. People say Justin Longmuir doesn't often have a plan b in games and at this point I might have to agree.

3. I actually don't think the rebuild has been derailed. This is a hurdle. We need to learn from it. There is still plenty of talent in this team.

Say what you want about Lyon but the only tine Ive seen toughness and heart on a consistent basis was under his reign, until we lost our way after 2015 we’ve been weak as piss since.
I was (still am) a Lyon fan but the 23 goals straight happened on his watch.

It's almost as if we had toughness and heart (2012-2015) when we had players with... toughness and heart.

Yep thats why i said we lost our way after 2015 , and until we get a few of those sorts of player’s we wont be going anywhere.

I like Longmuir, and Ross needed to go, but I can't shake the Cuddles vibes i get from him. I am not convinced the new age, holistic/mindfulness approach meshes well with creating a culture of hardarse win-at-all-costs footballers. I know that's a really boomer type of comment but we're worryingly soft and lazy. I am confident we will soon be a good team when our young core has enough games under the belts, but I worry that feebleness will plague us in big games for years to come.

This is my other major concern. 5 years after Pav retired and 8 years after it cost us a GF we still have the worst fwdline setup in the league. HOW?!

I reckon its a product of "best available" and the Hogan/Lobb trades.

The only time a quality key forward was available at our first was 2018 and we would have had two shots at picking him and traded both. Every other draft there hasn't been anyone of note except Marshall (who sucks) and Naughton/Allen who were a KPD/too short at the time.

Sturt being perma injured doesn't help as he was the first forward we dropped a first rounder on.

Especially when there are great up and coming forwards that are from WA and trained under our noses and we.. passed.

Treacy being find $2k is a massive ****ing joke. There was nothing more than a free-kick in that incident. The club should challenge the **** out of it but they won't because they have shown time and time again that they have no balls when it comes to standing up for themselves or the players.

We would still have lost, but Walker, Henry and Wilson should have been rested for Conca, Blakely and Crowden. Bring in some bigger bodies against the Cats off a 5 day break in terrible conditions.

Agree. If Darcy and Fyfe play next week we're a good chance then it's (hopefully, lockdowns permitting) 3 in a row at home.

Whats different about the last 4 seasons looking like the same trajectory to me start ok in around the eight fall in a heap towards the end of the year, maybe not because i can’t see us winning another game this year so it could be worse regarding ladder positions.

8.13 v Essendon 38%
9.15 v Port Adelaide 37.5%
9.11 v Bulldogs 45%
8.16 v Carlton 33.3%
3.13 v Geelong 18.75%*

We are still doing a lot of things right, but this is the most frustrating attribute to our game currently.

*I'm not taking in to account rushed behinds or OOTF in these stats for all games
