Amiss will be a gun but... why has it taken 20 years to finally recruit a forward. He is the only decent forward recruited since Pavlich.

Wtf! All other clubs have gun key forwards some have to guns.

We are the only club who have none bar a 19 year old. We recruit Erasmus who can't kick instead of JVR.

We have pushed out backs like Logue because we gave a backlog of them due to over recruitment. Why not just recruit a flipping full forward instead of overpaying in draft picks for below average forwards in McCarthy or Hogan. We even paid for that crab from Collingwood who kicked almost zero goals for us.

Rabble

And that's why Banfield not handballing that goal off to Henry was such a bad sign.

A team in sync gives that handball 100% of the time. Instead we are disjointed and have guys playing for themselves.
He’s was 100% correct to not entrust Liam Henry with the ball. Guarantee he would have found a way to fudge the certain goal and turn it over.

Nah bugger that. He went up against 2 defenders while Henry stayed at the back. He forced the ball to come over the back, collected and ran into goal. Deserved to kick it. Wasnt any need to hand that off.

Lol true. some here would love to discredit a player anyway they can.

Banfield may lack the talent some here claim but I doubt Henry could of pulled that off. He probably wouldn't have even tried flying for that

Ffs someone get the damn forwards moving. Why the * are they just standing still everytime bloody time we are kicking inside 50.

This is me every time i see we have a slow inside 50 kick...
MOVE YOU CAMPAIGNERS!! Lead into space. NO TABERNER NOT AMISS' SPACE! Find your own space. OHHH FFS...watching on as Tabs and Jackson spoil each others marks and theres not one bloody small to crumb and the opposition just waltz the ball out...every. Bloody. Time.

I swear Tabs is either behind the defender looking for the over the back easy mark or he's leading into someone elses space taking the defender across to ruin any chance that another forward has for a mark.

We miss Mundy more than we know.
We miss Logue
We miss Acres.

Something stinks down at Cockburn at the moment. JLO needs to get his house in order and stop the rot now or we're looking at another wasted season of mediocrity.

/end rant
I get it's just a rant but there's some player bias there. Taberner may have been in Jye's space sometimes but more often he was up the ground, outside 50 & creating space for Amiss to lead into. Not sure what you thought of Jye's leading patterns. It's expected at this stage of his career but I thought they need a LOT of work. Much of that is probably on the forwards coach.

Hogan is not a below average forward. Look at his stats before and after Freo vs at Freo.

He’s just one example but there’s something very wrong with how we use KPFs at this club. Almost every KPF we recruit from other clubs goes downhill.

It’s a miracle that Taberner and Lobb have even done as well as they have.

Everything else about your post is correct btw - the reasons why Hogan can average two goals a game elsewhere before and after Freo needs to be looked at without just blaming Hogan’s off field stuff as well. He’s far from the only example

Couldn't understand that myself has anyone heard the logical explanation for why we took Erasmus instead of Van Rooyen?
he seems to suit our needs better like the look of Johnson moves well hopefully strings a few games together we really need another big mid.

Is it possible that Joel Corey is actually a plant from Geelong sent to destroy the club from within 😭😂😂

Why’d we spend all preseason putting Jackson up against Darcy in the ruck “pushing each other” to get better and think he could slot seamlessly into 70% game time as a forward?
He either needed to be training with the forwards and his forward “craft” or we should be playing him in the ruck more often.
Yet the think tank are surprised that our forward line looks totally dysfunctional with Jackson down there!
All our “talent” is in the backline, Young, Chapman and Clark should have been training as Mids/Wings throughout preseason.
Going in with Brayshaw, Serong and JOM for most CB is too vanilla and one paced, the fact they thought Brodie was the problem speaks volumes about our coaches.
Changes need to be made and need to happen this week!

Issue was there was no guarantees to get Johnson. Pick 21, and needed Erasmus first. Kinda risked it really.

This club has had history of not drafting forwards early and risking it later. Would’ve loved Georgiades, Comben or Cumberland at a later pick, yet gambled on shitty Henry in 2019 Draft.
Serong and Young are in the leadership group by this season

I've defended Tabs for years...(Call it frustration)...yes he does some good team orientated stuff up the ground. Its his work inside 50 thats really grinded my gears with his piss poor leads and inability to win or halve a contest. That being said he hasnt really been any worse than our other talls.

Amiss leads at the ball better than Tabs has ever done. He's far from a finished product but I rate his upside because you can see the player he could become.

It's not all the coaches fault. The same man got the Eagles forward line humming and that comes down to the talent they invested into their forwards. You can't polish a turd and Jaime has his work cut out for him.

Something is off.

Don't know quite what, but something is off. Way off.
Reminds me of our long dalliance with Owen in the first part of 2016, when a team that normally had such mojo and on field dynamic just looked lost, disconnected and out of touch with each other.

Main difference is this year's team has so few injuries and forced absences compared to 2016, where we were injury impacted and down...
Suspect it has to be something to do with selections, training and game plan understanding and commitment.
Whatever it is, it is sad seeing the joy sucked out of the younger kids especially - fear and hesitation have become the team's key emotions.

Might just be a coincidence but Owen in 2016 was the first season after Pav stood down as skipper. Maybe the vote and electing a new captain is divisive?

Ive said it before, and I'll say it again.

In the pre-season game against Port, the most functional I've seen the forward line in ages was when Fyfe, Sturt and Treacy were all down there.

Now, in lieu of Fyfe being unavailable, I'm willing to roll the dice with Corbett.

All my recollection is that this board reckoned Henry was going to be a freak small forward, Bettsesque kinda thing.

Itss pretty extraordinary that we seem to have like maybe a hand full of players that are playing better than last year. And Serong is maybe the only real noticeable improver. Aish has had a pretty good start to the year as well.
