I got it wrong

I was seduced by the skill and execution under constant intras

Most players looked slick and super fit

That's it I'm done with pre season training reports and giving a * about team selection
Haha at least you are owning it.
That preseason thread was hideous TBH. I remember saying on it during the peak of the hubris on here that Amiss needed to have a massive season for us to have a chance of winning anything this year and that he was the most important 19 year old in the league.
Got a few condescending replies from Daddoo and a few others “oh you must be fun at parties” “why can’t you just enjoy where we are at”

We are so ****ing amazing. Blah blah blah.

Bottom 3 and out first rounder and second rounder over in Melbourne. JFC

All they did was play scratchies against each other.

No reworking the gameplan and not enough stoppage work imo. Very cocky.

I wrote on here about this time last year, that it was madness drafting a mid (Erasmus) in the top 10 of the ND then not playing him. Remember saying that Neil Erasmus would be a lesser player than people like Colyer and Banfield for maybe 20 games, but once he gets over that initial adjustment to AFL footy would be up and away and on the steep part of his inprovement curve and leave those guys well behind him.
As a top 10 pick, we should expect Neil Erasmus to be winning all Australian awards at about 100-170 games into his career if it was a good draft choice.
He should be getting nominations for the AA squad from about 70 -120 games into this career.
He should be a top 10 player at the club from approx 40 games into his career.
Over the first 20 or 30 games, he will be inconsistent and have good and bad days.

Over those first 30 games he should be Just like Banfield and Colyer AT THEIR VERY PEAK.

Not their first 30 games. Their very best is what we can expect from 25 game Neil Erasmus.

So what do you do? You pump the first 30 games into the elite talent ASAP!! Get him though that period quick.
You don’t end up with honest plodders playing 100 games over 4-5 years while guys like Sturt and Erasmus play at Peel, wasting valuable AFL gametime.

If JL was the coach in 2017 Andrew Brayshaw would probably only have about 65 games played by now. That how ludicrous this is.
Just ****ing play Johnson, Sturt, amiss, Erasmus and NoD every game from now till end of the season.
At lease enter 2024 with all these players over 20 games at minimum. Give us something to build on for next year.

Adelaide 6 yrs to 1st premiership
Brisbane 5 yrs
PA 7 yrs
WC 6 yrs and 2 since Freo came on
Fremantle 28 yrs. and waiting...let that sink in. The establishment needs a rocket.
Was telling my brother last week if i could walk away from the Dockers i would do it gladly but alas being born n bred freo boy...no can do.
And to those twats turning their backs on Lobb taking a shot last night....*me...really.

Me too my friend. Me too.

Might as well blood the kids
What are we doing right now FFS.
Playing two kids with less than ten games to lead our forward line. We are playing one with two full games across the centre and in the mid.
If we had Noddy, then we would be playing another "KID".
Serong, is still a "KID", as is Darcy, as is Young.
What other heckin'G kids are there.
It pisses me off hearing this weak as puss request.
WE ARE PLAYING FCKN "KIDS "

We're literally running out of kids to play at this point. Already one of the least experienced teams in the league. Only 1 player who's played more than 150 games last night. 18 players under 100 games. 8 under 50.

Well that’s why we don’t get rid of players like Logue and Acres, Lobb, Tucker , Meek and Mundy in one year

I wish people would stop including Meek, Tucker, and Lobb in this conversation. Meek got dropped from Hawthorn, and is miles behind Jackson and Darcy. Tucker is a nothing player and would be playing over both Johnson and Ras at the moment, which everyone would sook over. Lobb was gone from before last season even started and knowing him he'd be throwing a tanty and staying in Melbourne instead of suiting up for us every week.

Poor management was with Acres, Logue, and Mundy.

We probably looked awesome in the preseason because we were playing against ourselves.

Pearce would’ve looked like a behemoth beating up on Amiss, Treacy and co.

Amiss, Treacy and co would’ve looked promising BECAUSE they were playing on Pearce.

Their collective inadequacies are only highlighted when playing against others.

Our midfield would’ve looked ‘slick’ when JOM ran away from Brodie.

Our collective shiteness has provided a massive false belief and our gameplan would’ve looked fool proof when playing amongst ourselves.

Not only have we been figured out, we’ve not attempted a plan B.

The 2025 strategic objectives are embarrassing and the subsequent pressures they fed into, can be directly and indirectly blamed for the shocking decision making that's having a detrimental impact.

We can make a case about who needs to go, (Bell, Longmuir and Cooper) but really, Simon Garlick needs to be accountable for all of this.

Bell is responsible for the list management, but trading multiple futures for Jackson shouldn't have happened if anyone was genuinely trying to make our list sustainable, especially after we gave away our proven depth in exchange for mature & unwanted players. So what's the list management strategy at the end of this season going to be? More futures out for 'win now' players?

Longmuir and Webb now have to finish top four three times before 2025, Longmuir only has two lives left, Webb has three chances but she hasn't coached at this level before. This will impact team selection and already has for Longmuir, who has no incentive for playing younger players for development and play to win with whatever Bell has left him. Cooper has already lost his job, after one bad season that was crippled with injuries.

There's only one person that should have an observed expiry date, and it's Simon Garlick and he can take his great mate Bob Murphy with him.
Bob Murphy is admin.
I don't think he makes a huge difference in our crap.
Club needs a mid season independent review.
We have lost our way.

We have Sturt play all year at Peel last year, decide to say it's because he needs to work on his defensive game, he comes in last week, has an immediate impact, and plays well again this week, why did we wait so long????? Just because Longmuir likes Banfield? I like Banfield, he seems like a lovely bloke, but he's not someone that belongs in the team every week.

Kids that absolutely should be playing every game when fit now

Erasmus
NOD
Worner ahead of JOM
Emmett
Draper

Tracey ahead of Tabs

Here's the thing though, if you keep holding off playing the kids they never get to 25 games, let alone 50 or 100.
Need to play the kids to find out which ones (Henry) need to go as much as anything.

I'll stop my reports or be really negative next pre season
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on how we got it so wrong this off-season though. Was it just that our skills were great until the intensity lifted during the season proper? Did all the intraclub matches at 0.5 rat power give us a false feeling of confidence? Or were the players rubbish all along, but we were all caught up in our own hubris in the pre-season analysis?

Or are our skills just being negated by a game plan that opposition coaches have exposed ever since the semi final loss last year?

You could say the same about banfield....Round 11 last year, is the sub. Plays full game in round 12 against Brisbane, has an immediate impact and kicks 4 goals.Plays well again the next week against Hawthorn and kicks 2.....
