These boys just can't handle the pressure they are mentally and emotionally weak ..... couldn't win for Cam McCarthy " twice " and then produce that performance for NAT fyfe
Still the youngest team (or very close now Fyfe & Walters have gone)
Got some more talent coming in next year.
They have been learning to lean into the pressure this year.
Starting to bond as a group.
Ras will be gone end of year.

Stay calm farm..

Nine days to stew on that mess, to watch the other teams who want to play finals seize their moments, to hear David King speak of us with derision and contempt yet again, to have our characters questioned, to wonder if we will play conservatively again against the dogs who have as much stake in the desperation needed to save their own season, or will we go for broke and actually try to win it, and whether this club will ever be capable of seizing its moment. I hope it burns in their ****ing guts all weekend, all week and all next weekend before the siren sounds to start that nauseating game of reckoning.

We gave Brisbane players too much space, allowing them to execute their kicks too easily. Sitting up high could see that the whole night. There switch to the same side then run or kick the wing was on the whole night. We didn't pressure them enough. Watching players miss goals that they would normally get- for Freddy's faults he is normally a reliable set shot at goal. This game shows it was lost prior to the first bounce. They didn't prepare and adjust their mindset. Brisbane where good but had we played like we did the previous weeks, I firmly believe the result wouls have been different.

That's the thing I don't think it will burn in their guts the players time and time again have proven so

I think it will, they’re capable of beating teams against the odds, I just don’t think we’re always capable as a club to prepare them in the right way or to select the players that we need to who can handle this kind of pressure. We’re a house of cards.

Depressing seeing the same excuses being trotted out.

“First ever team to win 15 games and miss finals” - because we’ve never had a bottom 9 as uncompetitive as this season, meaning the top 9 bank easy wins against them, making 15 wins easier to obtain then other seasons.

“We’ve won 11 of our last 13” - it’s all good and well going on a winning streak in June but when the whips are cracking this team has repeatedly failed.

“We’ve won 3 more games than last year” - see point one.

“We are improving” - if you look at the results we’ve minimally improved every year under JL but after 6 years he hasn’t been able to take us the next step. Minimal improvement is no longer acceptable and we need results.

“We are the youngest side in the league” - the team we fielded last night was older then 6 premierships teams of the past 20 years.

“It would be reactionary to sack the coach now” - we’d be only one of two teams in the 35 years of the AFL era to keep on a coach who’s made one finals series in 6 seasons. The other team? Adelaide with Nicks, who has them first on the ladder and premiership contenders/favourites in his 6th season.

And on and on and on.

I’ve never seen any fanbase in any sport make as many excuses as our fanbase does.

They're facts not excuses 🤣 we've had a great run the last 2 and a half months, but most people watching can see we aren't really a premiership contender. We lack the killer instinct imo, don't put bad teams away and have lapses where the other side can capitalize (1st quarter against Carlton, 2nd quarter against Port)

Still a lot to work with though and I'm pretty optimistic going forward. I don't think sacking Jlo would be the right move unless you had a tried and tested premiership winning coach available and keen for the job.

They’re rose-tinted facts that lack context to make things seem better then they are.

Yes it is a fact that we would be the first team with 15 wins to miss finals. It’s also a fact that we’ve literally never had a bottom 9 as uncompetitive as this season which is affecting the win/loss ledger (41-2 is the top 9 vs bottom 9 teams record since Round 14, with the 2 upsets both being caused by Sydney who are clearly a step above the rest of the bottom 9). This year West Coast, Richmond, North, Essendon, Melbourne, St Kilda, Carlton and Port are all basically free wins for any semi-competent team. We’ve never had this many really shit teams. 15 wins this season would be equivalent to 11 or 12 wins in any other season.

Funnily enough, not many people are mentioning the second part.

This is a glass half full - or glass half empty vent. I’m sober now and a bit dusty. But I’ve also just had a swim in Freo so I feel a bit more awake and like myself.

I didn’t have a choice with being a Freo fan. Dad was a sharks fan and never warmed to the eagles. I was 6 when Freo were formed. My brother was 6 months old. We just went along with dad.

Even if dad didn’t give a rats about footy and we were given the choice, I reckon 99 times out of 100 we would have picked Freo. The club had soul. It had spark. It was accesible. It was based in our favourite place in WA. The green and red paid homage to our mums family. Our pops was a merchant sailor and probably had a girl in Freo when he visited here (sorry man). We always loved an underdog as a family. So this goddamn club would have had us regardless.

I just want to see us have some ****ing backbone on the field and fight like hell to lift a ****ing cup for us supporters. Just once soon would be nice. Just. ****ing. Once.

For all of us that have been there from day one. For all of us who came on board late.

For every single one of us that chose - and still continues to choose - this club as our own.

He’s on 115 games now.
Another 85 games of Banfield is surely a stretch too far for even his biggest fans?
Then again there was a period of time where the idea of him making 100 games was fanciful.

He had a true horror show last night (wasn’t the only one in fairness).

NOD is another offering zero at the moment.

Looking forward to the medium term, a scary thing is Brisbane are only getting better this offseason. They’ll be replacing Day and Fort with Oscar Allan and Sam Draper and won’t need to give a pick in return (both Free agents). I’m very interested to see what we do this offseason to improve. Organic growth from the group won’t bridge the gap I saw between these two teams last night. We need to be active in the trade period.

Oscar Allen and Sam Draper will be on more money than Fort and Day, a lot more money.
So once again the strong clubs rape the weaker clubs and don't appear to have any salary cap to worry about. So much for equalisation ffs.

Bailey Banfield is the sunk cost fallacy personified. Also the fact that - by all reports - he is a really great clubman and human being, which is absolutely a credit for him no doubt, but it definitely sways JL and the selectors.

They have a soft spot so despite him being crap at footy he gets in. He isn’t a defenders arseh*le and wasn’t up until round 10 or whatever it was this season, so really it’s just desserts that in a crunch time game against a top 4 opponent with our season on the line he is abysmal playing in a position that he can’t play. I mean what did they ****ing expect.

The coach got what he deserved with the continual persistence of him.

Not only did i watch a spineless performance last night i just watched the Dees lose to the hand baggers after being 50 points up what a faarkin cruel world it is following these two clubs.

Brisbane turned it around and from a worse position than what we were in. Come on people, their rebuild was anything but easy. How many first round draft picks walked out of the club, all the while having less public support being a Qld club.

There’s only one club with a suss salary cap and that’s Geelong

Think there’s a few in here who have painted themselves into a corner & are pretty keen for us to lose this weekend to stay relevant.
