Its gonna be a gold coast Brisbane Sydney top 4. The AFL just need GWS to stop the injuries and their mission is complete
We will be there too.

Yeah kinda sucks how hard our club has had to work to get into the position it's in now while the mobs up north have just been gifted most of what they have because the league wants to "grow the game"

The AFL are lucky that there aren't enough teams that could break off and form their own league. The AFL would be ****ed without the WA teams

The problem is the AFL doesn't GAF about interstate teams that have rusted on support - see the SA/WA teams. They're so desperate to build in NSW/QLD that they would happily have us endure years of dominance from clubs in those states because they know fans in football states will show up or watch on TV regardless.

Yeah i totally agree

If gold coast are strong I have no problems with but what I hate is last draft it was obviously manipulated by the AFL so GC could draft 2 top 5 and 5 top 20 players with it barely affecting them. No other teams get this luxury. They also mashed to cough up big picks for pertracca.

The AFL is corrupt and nothing is done about it.

Watching the games on the weekend I fear we'll be nowhere near it.
I didn't think that at all. Sydney turned it on for 1 quarter against witches hats. Geelong were awful against GC. Hoks are frauds. Last night looked like a bottom 8 clash.

not quite this negative but i am slightly worried as all the teams that looked good (for however long) in OR (vomit) moved it fast.

this hasn't been our forte over 4 full Qs and the Eagles are not strong opposition, so the 2Ws in scratchies doesn't tell us anything.

yep, Cats looked shit, but they'll bounce back a bit on their own deck. we should be mopping them up, esp with big outs but i'm not so sure.

Not gonna lie, I had the same thought when watching GC, Brisbane, and the Dogs.

You should, mate, you should.

They're the nepo babies of the comp. It's just gross. They AFL are misguided. Do you know what grows a game? Having every team on the same footing and anyone who can win the flag any year. Favoring the big Vic teams and propping up the smaller teams is NOT the way to do it.

The MLB is bleeding supporters. The rich get richer every year and the big spending teams win. They'll be in a contract lockdown in the next two years, mark my word.

If the AFL wanted to grow the game, you grow the passion of every single supporter, not the few. Artificially pumping up teams in areas you want to grow is a fool's errand.

I watched all of the games.
Sydney played 1 good quarter against a 10-14 team, at their home where they can kick a goal running out from the centre square
Carlton looked average as i expected. Like us in 2016 where we weren't terrible, just not enough to get 4 points.
GC looked consistently good across 4 quarters playing their own game. If they can keep it up for 24 rounds, they will be in the mix
Geelong looked like they had a hangover and Cameron missing throws out their forward structure
Hawks looked worse than last year. Worpel and Day is a significant loss. There's only so many balls coming in before Battle and Barass get swamped
GWS looked pretty good but not infalible by any stretch.
Brisbane look strong but less intensity than Bullies but dropped a 5 goal lead. Dude on the main board with his 'is this the first year a team (Brisbane) won't lose a game' thread lasted to R0. lol
Bullies looked good but not necessarily any stronger than last year. They just wanted it more.
Collingwood and Saints look around the 8-10 mark. Ok but for every star doing something good, they both had plonkers throwing it away consistently with bad decisions or poor disposal.

I havent seen us play yet to make an assessment on how we will go.

Gold Coast looked good, but not sure if they were terrific, Geelong was really bad or both. It was the worst I've seen Geelong play since the NT last year. That includes the Grand final.

Sydney weren't punished for playing awfully for 2 and a half qtrs. They do that against a good team they'll have to make up more than a 22 point deficit. However i do have them in the 8. Carlton are poo, and will be finishing 14th or so.

Brissy and the doggies was a shoot out. Dogs cant defend so they played unaccountable 1 way footy. Brissy did the same. Lock the Doggies down and make them accountable both ways like we did last year and they fall apart.

Collingwood looked old last night. Daicos boys are an awesome pair though. Both can football. Saints look like us in 2019. Plenty of promise but not quite there with the mid fwd connection.

Thanks for those insights BA. I haven't watched any games due to work and just chilling doing other things, just occasionally checking scores when I could.

I feel like you could be describing any team on any given day. Even the top teams contending will have off games or drop a surprise, it invariably happens. Gold Coast look strong, but again I emphasis how important the home advantage can be for teams playing their opening game. I think sometimes people outside Australia underestimate the travel time and crossing of time-zones and how that can affect the team doing it, not to make excuses for anyone. I think we can all argue the merits of a proper equalized competition, but it just isn't how it works. Especially with the manner the finals series plays out.

It's probably Geelong out of the mix I am most curious about, I might watch that game before Sat to kind of 'scout' something (whatever that means). I do feel like Geelong could be vulnerable, but then if the Dockers come out cold and let Geelong take an early lead, or heads drop in that situation, it could be similar to last year. I do think Geelong will buff up their chest and have a point to prove. I'm just hoping there's some kind of internal wane going on similar to Freo in 2016, where it just....all falls apart. The fact all options are on the table makes it the more anxious. Kind of.

GC have got West Coast next. Barring a miracle, they should obliterate them and their percentage will sky rocket. And so, here's the main problem I have with the fixturing.

It's garbage. Round 0?! 0 enthusiasm. It can get in the bin, hideous concept.

Watching yesterday I thought that Collingwood were most likely to fall off the cliff. Looked old. Had enough composure when it mattered to beat the saints but the saints were also doing their best to make it hard to win in the patented rossball style.
