I’m in the slightly more fortunate boat of not having to fly from Perth, so the flight haven’t been jacked up the same way.

Can get $271 for the hop across the Tasman on the Thursday before the game in question, but think it’s a bad omen booking too early….
Go on Swanny.
No one's checking your bookings for omens.
OK OK so I check the tea-leaves every day, wheres the harm?
According to my tea pot , omens all good.

Presume so. Not sure if interstate members have reduced rights, though. I hope not...
So the good news is Interstate members are eligible to purchase the grand final upgrade from a quick scan of the Freo member info.

The bad news is it sounds like you haven't, in which case if it's Interstate and not Melbourne, you'd be priority 3.
Now I have no idea what the difference is between priority 2 and 3, but all Perth season members and Melbourne members are in priority 2 so assuming there is a difference you might be SOL there.

Pretty sure the upgrade is a waiting list which from what I can tell can take years particularly when we are doing well

I was on it for a year before it was accepted

I believe they only come up when someone else relinquishes theirs for whatever reason

Yeah the upgrades are capped because the competing club members allocations are limited, so there's only so many they can allow for guaranteed access, while also giving a reasonable chance for others too.
We have been paying for a few years.

As a comparison Carlton have a limited premium membership subset and 50+ year members for priority 1, then they break the other priorities into 25-50 year members for priority 2 and 10-25 year members for priority 3.
I enjoyed reading that little tidbit from 2023 when they made the prelim.

The upgrade is a waiting list, I looked at it this year but figured there was no point as I’d be that far down the list as is.

Priority 2 members (which I am) go into a ballot for remaining tickets, but I suspect there won’t be many so it’s probably just blind luck.

This is my current dilemma - book flights first with no guaranteed ticket on the off chance the stars align and we make it (potentially quite likely) but also I then somehow get a ticket through the ballot (far less likely).

I’ve also thought about as a backup flying to Perth to watch it in Freo if I don’t get tickets. Was good in 2013, up until it wasn’t.

Nah there is a waiting list for the upgrade, the upgrade isn't itself a waiting list.

We joined the waiting list in 2022 and then got the opportunity in 2023 (someone must have jumped off). Have been renewing it every year since.

Members with the grand final upgrade are guarenteed a seat if they want it/Freo make it

I was a bit casual with my wording. I am actually a Melbourne member, so that means I'm priority 2.

I thought access to GF upgrade was only grandfathered, i.e., once you stopped paying for it, you couldn't get it back.

Yep in which case you'd be in the general ballot with all Freo season members.

Grand final upgrades are fully subscribed, so there's a waitlist that will likely not move much given people are unlikely to relinquish now unless there's personal circumstances or they get a premium seat upgrade which includes it.

Only to Finland for three weeks (and Svalbard) after the Geelong game. We miss two consecutive home games (had no idea when we booked), but how in hades am I going to watch them in the Arctic whilst trying not to be attacked by a polar bear or a walrus? 😊

I’m going to have to pay $$$ for wifi and hope my Foxtel Go works!

Hella lucky. I want to go to Svalbard some day.

Do you by any chance watch Cecilia Blomdahl on YouTube?

No, but sounds like something I need to look up?

She lives on Svalbard and posts weekly videos about life on the island.

My husband follows a girl who calls herself The Finnish Girl - it sounds similar.

I’ll have to look her up!

My dream (other than seeing Freo win a GF) is to see a polar bear in the wild.

In 2021 I was given a 5% chance of surviving septicaemia. I got through that battle but was told I would most likely go blind (after several surgeries), so in 2024 we went to Greenland to ‘see polar bears’. Unfortunately, the polar bears were several kilometres away in the distance and ships aren’t permitted to go anywhere near them.
I found a new specialist, started a new career and have been given a great opportunity to chase my dreams 😊
