I know it may not make a lick of difference but would like to see Bomber sitting next to Hird in the coaches box and getting more involved and helping Hirdy a little bit more on gameday instead of sitting behind him out of the way somewhat.

Sits up in the back corner of the box like he possesses Yoda like wisdom but Hirdy as much as I hate to say it looks helpless in the box and never seems to make any moves or try and improve our structures to close a game down. It's been two months of floggings and we haven't seemed to try to change anything on the field or in the box.

C'mon Bomber start earning some of that massive pay cheque and start getting the hands dirty a bit more. The more I watch us play the more we look like we are really lacking in direction and leadership from the coaches box and even Malthouse was mortified by how bad our structures and set ups are.

Carbon copy of Freo's 2011 campaign, seriously. Came out of the blocks well, struggled against weaker sides as the year dragged on, swathes of injuries, a kinda-sorta impressive win interstate that was hard-fought followed by a streak of losses to see out the year. Even including a result that balanced on a knife's edge and if it had gone the other way the whole story might have been different.

And if we were deeper into Hird's tenure it'd be enough to end it. But it's not, so all I can say is bring on 2013, with the sobering thought that we're beginning to become Richmond.

Plus Side: Surely Carlton cant shaft a former club captain and get Malthouse to coach them now, because theyd be real flag contenders with him coaching....[/quote

My tip:- Hird out, Thompson in!

Bomber's sharpening his knife to plunge into Hird's back as we speak!

I unfortunately brought my family across from Tassy to see the G game today. First things first - all the bleeding hearts out three talking about how hard .gr Bombers tried - stick it up your ass . i watched therefore use and what came out of it is that we are lazy, unaccountable, skill-less hacks who have been pretending for half a syou areeason. I'm sorry today's effort, ifyou you can call it that, was not up to Afl standard Blame the Weapon or whoever you need to but we are not fit enough. i am ashamed of our see for the first rim this year.

55+ point defeats under Hird's reign:

ALL AFTER ROUND 14

2011
Hawthorn 65pts
Carlton 74
Collingwood 74
West Coast 57
Carlton 62

2012
St Kilda 71
Geelong 67
Hawthorn 94
Carlton 96

Does not make for good reading.

Hird's presser after the game said last year after rd's 8-9 we started to fall away and this year we lasted about 5-6 weeks longer with the Bulldogs being the last match they were happy with. Seems that fitness levels are something they are still not happy with.

I just don't understand how we can be so impressive the first half of the season then so insipid the second half. Something is seriously not right in the players' heads.

I don't disagree. The Adelaide loss would have been incredibly dispiriting, but if that's enough to get them to hide in their shell, that's not good enough either.

Go & do some training for 400m races. Then enter a 1500m race & see how great you look for the 1st 400 then how completey spent you are & useless after that. Thh top teams eased into the year & know when to surge. This game is not a sprint & fitness management to peak at the right time is all part of whats required. We are still stuck in the days of oranges at 3qtr time & some liniment for your aches.

Just going through the motions and let's face it, we all do it at work. The Adelaide effort was very good, but just like being at work it sort of had the feeling of " quick the boss is coming, look busy" ! Have said it for weeks now, both Ess and carl look like teams who are desperately looking for the season to end. These blowouts keep happening, unfortunately we looked less interested than carlton and they took full advantage.rich coll to come, both should handle us comfortably.
Tanking ?

No we don't. Every week we lose the relative value of Daniher for our pick

Yup.

When it looked like we were going to be using a low pick for Daniher I thought it was too good to be true. It was.

Need to be more adventurous come trade time, this list clearly falls away when it comes to the crunch (aug/sept). Watson/Stanton need help, package up some talls/picks for a gun mid, it's easier said than done but it has to be done. This is a mid-table team looking increasingly irrelevant.

This sums up our effort yesterday. One of our players copping it from Yarran and Heppel's having a laugh.

were we that Impressive? We beat North after faltering in last quarter, we beat Port Adelaide when they took it upto us for 3.5 quarters, we just beat Gold Coast, good win against Carlton, Honourable loss to Pies but they should have won by more, Beat Brisbane when they were horrible, beat West Coast in Melbourne and at time they had more injuries to key players than us, an unimpressive win against GWS, a good win against Freo, arrogant loss to Melbourne, one good quarter against Sydney, 1 good quarter against Port, good game against the Dogs but really?

There arent too many impressive wins in that first half we had our own slice of luck that had us over rating ourselves, people still think our midfield is good enough or is promising, miles off it...

Collingwood has had as many injuries to key players as us, sure they aint firing right now but they are still in top 4 and will belt us in a fortnight.

My Next Peeve is those that take a soft option and target the Weapon, please!!! We have had injury problems the last 3-5 years if not longer, nobody can transform 40 odd players bodies that have had previous scar tissue from previous soft tissue injuries. I think it comes back to players you draft, some of our players dont have bodies that are capable of playing AFL for 20+ weeks per year, our lack of depth increase pressures on some of other players that are capable of playing a high level, until we improve our depth of top quality players we will continue to get injuries, and the more they get injured in the same spot the more prone they are to re-injuring.

Fletch is the perfect example yesterday, he did too much, more then he was capable of for a guy his age, he worked forward and then sprinted back to make that spoil. If our midfield was half decent he wouldnt have had to make that spoil.

Drafting Kavanagh, Merrett, these guys are not ready for AFL, it might be fruitful in a few years time but I dont think that helps the Weapons Cause. And next year we get JD who is immensely talented but injury prone as well.
