He is a genuinely tough ball winning midfielder with class, poise and game smarts. Not overly quick, not outside, but genuinely good.

We have been watching a different Caddy then. I have watched him alot and IMO he just hangs around pack waiting for the ball, never attacks the contest. His disposal efficiency is poor. The only positives I can find is his size and a big kick. Sorry but I just dont see this class and poise you speak of.

He is young though and only had one pre-season but I havent seen anything special. I said elsewhere alex browne is a better player than him.

Got a lot of underdone players, too many first up and second up runs, they all look average.

Our bottom few just look a mile off it. Monfries, Melksham, Lonergan, Hardingham. Browne was alright I thought. Gus I dunno. I really don't know where we go with this bloke. Not sure how much better he's gonna be, if at all. That said I've never been a fan so maybe biased. Just don't think he does enough.

Tough day for the backline, ball pouring in with little pressure from up the ground.

Why does Hurley keep running under the footy? It seriousy looks like he's trying to avoid body contact. I know that's not the case with him but if it were most other players, that's what they'd be accused of. People think it's poor kicking to him but i happens too often for it to be coincidence. It's almost every contest, he runs straight under it. Got a bit better as the day went on.

I'm not critical of them personally or their endeavour, but I don't think Ryder and Belly works. They're both ruckman and nothing else. This I believe has huge ramifications for our off season and futures planning. But I don't expect anything to happen, Paddy will be played out of position for his whole career.

I don't think you ever really know how coaches have performed unless you're on the inner sanctum, but today didn't look great for our coaches. Carlton poured it on relentlessly in the second quarter and we looked absolutely powerless to change anything. Very reminiscent of some ugly times from the past. Looks like they've put the cue in the rack tbh.

Who cares about Caddy? we aren't going to get him, not this year at least..

We have these midfielders, they just aren't ready yet! Take Lonergan out replace him with Kavanagh, take out Hardingham replace him with Ross, it is all about the development now guys.

Just on the game itself though, we were completely and utterly smashed in (our apparent area of strength) the clearances. They just waltzed straight out of the centre bounce and inside 50 SOOO many times in that second quarter.

Was there any positives from todays game?

Browne? cant really say anyone else would have been in the top dozen players on the ground any ways apart from the usual suspect (Watson).

No forward structure, no midfield versatility, no composure in the backline.

Now for the bullets?

Angus Monfries WILL NOT be apart of our premiership side. Sure, he does the whole deffensive forward thing ok, but wasnt he minding Heath Scotland today? In today's game, everyone needs to be apart of the zone, so surely we can get a third forward who can play small, develop them as a deffensive forward and teach them to keep there feet?

Jake Melksham seriously needs a spell in the twos. Get him back to Bendigo and let him dominate and remind him how good it is to dominate games, he just seems to be going through the motions these days. The coaching saff are obviously trying everything, hell, saw him in the back pocket in the last quarter against Walker.

Kyle Hardingham is a liability. Sure his 6, 7, 8 one percenters looks good, but only so many can offset the 4 - 5 - 6 actual goals he leaks. His disposal by hand was absolutely deplorable today, by foot wasnt much better. Is he our Nick Maxwell?

Heath Hocking backed up his ordinary recent form today. Who was he suppose to be looking after? Murphy (37 disposals), Gibbs (28), Simpson (27) Judd (23)? if so, he was rubbish.

Our tall structure was thrown right out the window when Fletch went down, that was when the floodgates opened.

On a positive note, really excited that we showed some **** about us when Heppell went down after the quarter time siren, far too often this year we have just helped up our team mate and moved on. Not today.Gibbs the squib woundt have done it had they been up by 2 points..anyone wanna find the footage of the Gibbs v Milne squid?

Haven't seen the stats but suggest that the turnovers were about equal - Carlton punished us big time when we made a turnover and we barely landed a punch when they had a turnover.

TBH I disagree RE Hurley-i think hes doing everything he can-he is getting shite disposal to him by foot by kickers who fail to hit the target most of the time-I for one was very pleased with Hurls and my personal (and only_ highlight of the day was seeing him outmark two bluescum backmen in the last

That was a ****ing low act by Squibbs, to go after a bloke who was blindsided and had relaxed due to the siren going. Note that he ran away pretty quickly before anyone could come in and point out how much of a cocknose he is.

I can't take a positive out of today's game, not one. So I won't comment on the match. All I'll say is, and I can't speak for everyone, but for me, when the worst thing going on in life is that my footy team lost a match, life ain't too bad.

Heyon the positive I won money. On the negative this side was dumb beyond dumb. I hate bagging players but if Hardingham keeps his spot next week, Hird should face the death squad, he was Carlton's best player!

Do you think Carlton should drop Betts ?

hurley in the back line probably would help the rebound tbf

Was going to post the same thing.
I saw a fair bit of Hurley as a junior and his best footy for the Northern Knights was at CHB.
You could potentially have Gumbleton CHF, Ryder/Bellchambers at FF and Crameri next to them.
Move Hurley to CHB and he'd certainly stiffen up your defence.
His penetrating kicking would also be an asset back there

55+ point defeats under Hird's reign:

ALL AFTER ROUND 14

2011
Hawthorn 65pts
Carlton 74
Collingwood 74
West Coast 57
Carlton 62

2012
St Kilda 71
Geelong 67
Hawthorn 94
Carlton 96

Does not make for good reading.

it really doesn't, does it?
but the club are working to rectify it, and I'm happy with that, at least they're actively doing something to fix it.

I think I've had too much to drink.
