Overreacting to think Brisbane have gone past us. We are out of form and injured they have a top team in ATM. Just last week they lost to Geelong by 85 a team we beat by 25. If you take your key defender, inform midfielder and all time great out of any team they are going to struggle just like we have. We have problems but let's remember we beat West Coast, Geelong and Hawthorn twice.

Brisbane will be gunning for us in round 21 . Record against us is good and they won't be wanting that wooden spoon. Their kids are being bought up the right way - they play as a team.
Our team is in damage control - injury control - and with players only playing for self interest. Can't beat them in that frame of mind.

I think the ladder is a pretty good measure of where we are at. Bad but still ahead of a few teams.

They were 6 goals up against the Bulldogs in Melb before tiring. They beat Essendon in Melbourne 3 weeks ago without Beams. They were a goal down against Richmond in the 3rd qtr in Melb. That's pretty good form for a young team and they'll cop a belting from top teams still.
Their kids play team football, take it on and run both ways. They had a plan for Gibbs & Docherty today and shut both down early and raced to a 9 goal lead. We were clueless against them.
Witherden, Berry, McCluggage & even Cox have shown more than our 4 top 10s.

If we don't win another game - which could be likely - and given our recent performances and player attendance rate - teams below us can pass us.
A lot can happen in 5 games... we are only 2 games and a small percentage up from the wooden spoon after all...
Brisbane did us a small favour today though ...

Well you could also say we beat Hawthorn twice a team who could still make the 8. Lead to Melbourne at 3 qrt time before getting overrun. We haven't played Essendon but with a fit list we could have done the same. Remember we did beat Carlton ourselves earlier in the year. Fiorini, Ainsworth, Ah Chee i would have on par with them. I think 4 wins vs 6 wins is a good show of where we are at vs them.

It's 100% between the ears with us. When they are in for a battle and put on manic pressure we are superb.
Just on this, I read Jason Akermanis' book recently (dont judge me) and it was interesting how he talked about the mental side of the game. He reckoned that the Lions success on grand final day and in big games/when they were up against it was largely down to the fact that they genuinely believed that they were good enough to beat any side at any time, and that Leigh Matthews put a lot of resources and time into getting the best psychologists on board to obviously get the players psyche right, but also to help the players understand each other in order to play better together and understand how their teammates ticked. Then when he went to the Bulldogs coincidentally under Rocket the squad never developed that same mindset or put the resources in (the were broke so couldn't afford to) which he believed was part of the reason why that group never progressed past the prelims. He also says some other pretty insightful things about Rockets coaching style (not all bad), but it's Aker and he talks alot of crap so you take it with a grain of salt.

Anyway, long story short I definitely think we need to put more resources into the mental side of things (as well as development, skills, goalkicking, basically everything), if we haven't already started. I think Brendan Bolton looks highly on the mental side/development as well, and he's not doing too bad a job at the moment.

I recall recently hearing that we are one of only 4 clubs that has a full time Psychologist but I can't remember whether it is a Sports Psychologist or a general Psychologist for the off field stuff.

Maybe that position if it is a Sports Psychologist should be another part of the Evans Review.

Had a pretty good team in.
Our best team is very very competitive
We had our best team in and lost by 17 goals to GWS. I also rate Sydney, Adelaide and Port and we haven't gotten within 11 goals of them. Geelong aren't really a top 6 team despite their ladder position.

I believe we've also put a lot of resources into looking after our indigenous players.

I think it would be a great addition to add Aker to our coaching staff. No one seems willing to give him a go, but I think he would be a great get. He is different, sure, but what we have been doing certainly isn't working. Would bring a lot to the table.

saw this on the /r/afl subreddit. pretty interesting comparison. we fade real bad against the top 8 teams in the second half of games. also lmao at port.

Aker would've made a great assistant coach, but... it's all about Aker for Aker. He's simply too wrapped up in himself and it just isn't worth the trouble.

Aker would refute that comment if he wasn't so busy updating his wiki profile
