Mumford out = roughly $1.3mill per year out
Franklin in = roughly $1.3mill per year in

Explain to me the sudden angst?

If Mumford is on $1.3 million a year then he is the most overpaid player of all time. I suppose you have to really question the COLA and relate it to your club to realise just how unfair it is. When you compare the Suns' situation to Sydney's, it looks like this.

2011
Gold Coast's extra cap room: $1m
Sydney's extra cap room: around $800k

2012
Gold Coast's extra cap room: $800k
Sydney's extra cap room: around $800k

2013
Gold Coast's extra cap room: $600k
Sydney's extra cap room: around $800k

2014
Gold Coast's extra cap room: $400k
Sydney's extra cap room: around $800k

2015
Gold Coast's extra cap room: $0
Sydney's extra cap room: around $800k

It's hard to justify (in terms of equalisation) why a second year team that finished with the wooden spoon in 2011 and the premiers have the same amount of cap room in 2012. It clearly helped them swoop in and take Kurt Tippett out of the Suns' hands. How can the Gold Coast possibly compete with this in the future? Sure, the Gold Coast have plenty of young players that are very talented but there is no guarantee they are going to stay and Brisbane have shown what happens when you play in a non-footy state for a team that doesn't necessarily have a bright future.

A 9 year deal is also outrageous.

Reminds me of a certain 10 year contract that Alastair Lynch signed with the Brisbane Bears in the 90s...

Yeah I don't agree with it either. But Brisbane and Sydney have had extra cap space as far back as 02/03 if I remember correctly. Jut not sure why this is all of a sudden a shock.

Mummy was offered a massive deal to leave Geelong that they couldn't match.

They are quite clearly abusing their allowance, but they've been doing it for a decade. The competition hasn't been equal on many levels of a very long time. If it was, you'd probably see an even greater disparity between the haves and have nots.

Yep 1.3 OVER 4 years, not 1.3 PER. My bad.

I was just about to quote the article to you haha I think it was 1.2m over 4 years. Still, I think the combination of Mattner, Jude, Morton retiring and trading off Mummy will free up the space. Then if COLA is abolished they will be absolutely rolled. And I will love it.

Yeah 1.2 haha. Yeah, fair call. I don't actually think they need Buddy really. Structurally he doesn't do much for them. Not sure how much stronger they'll be. It means Jesse White is gone though. You'd think to a Vic club though.

Would also think Sam Reid to CHB while LRT maybe gets pushed our or retired after 1 more year.

Sam Reid didn't sign a 5 year deal to be played in the back half. At the time he was probably told he'd be their next marquee forward.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him go at all. As well as a host of other disgruntled Swans players that probably had to take pay cuts to bring in Buddy and Tippett.

Pure speculation of course. :D

Come on Sunny its a team sport. You do your role for the TEAM wherever the coach wants you to play. That's where the whole mantra of playing for your coach comes into it.

Players get shuffled around all the time.

Chad Cornes for example was a full forward/centre half forward early in his career. Got moved to Centre Half Back, and became one of the best CHB of the last 10 years.

Ben Reid is a CHB as well who gets floated forward. My tip is Sam Reid will get thrown around as well.

Look at Harry Taylor, he is a premier CHB, but he gets thrown forward on occasion.

I'm hoping that hair colour is from over exposure. It hasn't been dyed orange has it?
I assure you my ranganess is 100% I would never dream of dying this gift... Unless It was for charity of something like that.

The less said about the game the better. SUNS also tried to ruin my icecream.

Would it be fair to say that Sydney FC rely on Del Piero more than the Suns rely on Ablett?

Also, get around the Roar!
Emerton did alright when he came on but that said I haven't been to a big league game since the NSL was still around (My beloved Wollongong Wolves vs Marconi if I'm not mistaken) so I wouldn't know crap. ;)
