You have to hand it to the Bulldogs, though. They have done amazingly well in regard to recruiting Bontempelli, Stringer, and Macrae. Jordan Roughead and Michael Talia are being shown the ropes with Dale Morris (who I consider one of the smartest old defenders in the game). Easton Wood plays smart football, too.

I can see them getting very, very dangerous in a couple years time.

Altitude training what a absolute waste of money
Shouldn't the players be concentrating on improving
their skills @home instead of climbing the Rockies, attending
NBA games & throwing punches at each other over Rihanna.

Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong & Fremantle do not bother with high altitude training

I thought the exact same thing.

I think it was a good idea when the club was first founded, as it gave the players a chance to bond with their team-mates and to test themselves completely. However, several years on, I think it's stupid. Surely there are better things to do rather than spend tens of thousands, if not 100k+ on flights, accommodation, and 'high altitude training' costs.

I'm assuming they're getting the funding from memberships and attendance revenue? Let's hope it brings us a premiership...

If anyone is after some cheap Suns merch target have 50% off AFL stuff atm, money doesn't all go to the club obviously but prices aren't bad and seeing red and yellow EVERYWHERE is always good

No Suns polo :(

EFA

The colours on some of that unofficial merch sold at Target, Best and Less and places like that are terrible :p

It's paid for by the players themselves.

If they feel it's really beneficial and it's so unanimous I don't really care. Good chance to get away from the demountables. ;)

Co payment

I always wondered who lives in those demountables

Yes different scenery is always beneficial
For clubs like the Hawks and Cats, yep. But for the Suns, who have so little cash to splash, the players pay somewhere in the vicinity of 90-95% of their trips IIRC. Flights, accom and a fair chunk of hiring out whatever they need to.

The demountables I think is where all the office people work. There's also the gym in one of them? SUNS can probably break it down more.

Yeah pretty much correct. The demountables are mostly on the right and they are used as office and Admin for the Gold Coast staffers. But there is a few that the players use. The players room (not sure of what they call it exactly) is also a giant demountable. That is almost directly across from the offices. It is stocked with entertainment (video games, dart boards, table tennis, beds) and cooking facilities for the boys. It is more than adequately stocked with things to do for the players but is a bit of an eyesore and I can see how it can bring the guys down a little. But not much though

The Gym seems to be built of something different. Some of you would have seen it when attending Metricons offices. Big green tin shed looking place. Once again it has all the equipment that is needed by an AFL team, but in comparison to most clubs it would be a little bit of a mood kill having to train there every day.

I have never heard of any reports that the behind the scened headquarters is really doing anyone much damage. But there is no doubting the fact that a new, more professional set up would bring a better atmosphere and team moral to the club. Hopefully it is not too far away

Not yet. But maybe we would have died even earlier without it? Hmm.

Or maybe we wouldn't of run out of steam if we worked on our skills instead of mountain climbing, chasing your man because of turn overs is exhausting stuff.

I watched those videos of the camp and the sherrins were out in just about every one. Every club will do a period of bulk fitness training and then refine skills and gameplan after. Port went to dubai and trained in the heat, a bunch seeked altitude and a lot stayed home and made the most of beach runs.

As far as I wrapped my head around it, altitude training has an effect for only a few weeks after returning to sea level.. however the physiological benefits (increased red blood cell, mitochondria, larger stroke volume etc) allows an athlete to train harder on return and so its used as a head start for the training back on the coast before the christmas break.. which then I dont understand why we were out partying after the camp and losing some of the head start gained.

Aside from that I remember Stephen Schwert saying we were still 1 more preseason behind the rest of the competition so the fade was somewhat predicted.

Scratched my head at Bluey's comments during the week about only needing 14 contributors to win a game and that all top 4 sides only have that amount. How on earth did he come up with that logic when finals are won from your bottom 16-22, not top 10?? Totally bizarre. Who at Sydney and Hawthorn are passengers?
Also thought he should've put it out there that some players are playing for their careers these next 2 weeks. Put them on notice.

Depends how he was reported, but to a certain extent it's true
Our problem is that at the moment it's the SAME 14 contributors every week
You could pretty much say who will be in our bottom 6-8 every week
The good teams spread that "14 contributors" around their player group from 1-22 during the season
