Why's that? I very much doubt the club would expend it's modest resources tied up into a player they see as not having a future with the club at this juncture.
It's not about how much time we've put into him its just that he's not in our best 30 let alone best 22. Every time i see him picked in the squad i cringe because its like playing with 1 less player.

Can you clarify? What's about his game do you find bad? What specific examples or passages of play can you cite?

Wilko isn't great but I think it gets exaggerated on here a bit. He suffers from deer in headlights syndrome when he has the ball.

I'd rather have him off the list to be honest unless he can become a decent tagger. Thought he was okay on Goodes the other day.

Double fists the ball instead of marking it when there is no one around him. For someone that's meant to be so "quick" he seems slowish and never really breaks away from packs or consistently chases down fast players. He only "tags" the player he's on and never seems to be that attacking unless the ball lands in his lap. I could go on :p, but my main point is that he's just not in our best 22 at the moment and i hope he's not selected in our best 22 against St Kilda when there are other players obviously above him.

Not entirely sure he double fists the ball consistantly. I think that has happened once. I'd much rather a player go for a spoil on the boundary if they are unsure then try to mark it, fail and then turn it over in our defensive half. Better to structure up on a throw in in that situation. And as for him being slow, I think when you compare his ability to read the play out of defense vs. our other defenders, he's miles behind guys like Warnock, Murphy, Harbrow, Shaw and Bock. He also has far fewer games then these guys, so perhaps the coaches put him in a situation where he can play a hard tag and free up the more creative players to do the creative things.

There are far bigger targets to sledge on the list for what should be expected of them then Wilko. Non-marking forwards like Day, guys who can't get out of the 2's like Gilbee, Schade, Taylor, Nichols, Allen, Patrick....

I mean for what he was, a zone selection, I'd rate him over the other zone selections in his usefulness on the Senior List. I'd rate him over Allen (who was DECIMATED vs. North in a strong side for us 3 weeks ago), Nichols who is a project that may never get a senior game, his disposals are arguably as sound as Patrick. Jeremy Taylor hasn't proven much more then Wilko.

I agree he's outside of the best 22, but when we're comparing him against debuting guys consistantly picked in the top 10 for 3 straight drafts and guys with 100+ games at senior level acquired from other clubs, it's going to be hard for a project/zone selection to crack the side consistantly until they find their game. Defensively he doesn't get picked on, and if he's there as an injury replacement I'd rather his mature body trying to tag a player like Goodes or Mitchell vs. the other guys stuck on the outside looking in.

zorko was a zone selection.. would you rate wilko over zorko?
then i went on to say "why did we pick wilko over zorko a couple of years ago"

we traded zorko to brisbane in a 3 way trade with melbourne for warnock
While it hurts now that we couldn't keep him, I still think that we were the clear winners of that trade. Since Bocky went down the "Warhammer" has been a superstar for our defence.

o yeah dont get me wrong, i loved the warnock trade.. but my point is why didnt we pick him up earlier in the piece? a year earlier? and we wouldnt have got ourselves into a spot where we had to trade him to pick up warnock.

No one even mentioned his name at the time I'd imagine. Hindsight is 20/20.
Not exactly true. This article was written in June 2010 when he was playing alongside Wilko at Broadbeach - http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2010/06/21/230431_gold-coast-afl.html

This article was made a month before the the 2010 draft when the Suns acquired majority of their talent and Zorko had just won his third successive B&F at Broadbeach - http://www.aflq.com.au/index.php?id=5&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=375&tx_ttnews[backPid]=4&cHash=1acaa0fcd5

This article suggests Zorko wasn't even told why the Suns traded him - http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2012/07/18/432475_gold-coast-afl.html

To say no one knew about him or they weren't talking about him is just flat out wrong. The Suns chose not to take him on and had several chances to get him/keep him. Not to mention the fact that he had just won a fourth consecutive B&F at Broadbeach in 2011 when they traded him to Brisbane. Make no mistake about it, this guys talents were known by the Suns and if they wanted him they would have taken him. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Mate i watched all the preseason games bar Melbourne and yes, he double fists the ball when no one is around him on multiple occasions. I don't hack on anyone else because I don't know them, they never play in the Gold Coast Suns best 22 which is fine. They will just be cut eventually from the list. What erks me is when people are named in our best 22 who clearly aren't in there, it hurts as a supportor to know that we aren't putting our best team forward to win. Happy to give him another chance this year but from the preseason form... it's same old Wilko lol.

Suffering from a bit of premature eVENTulation at the moment. Something just doesn't feel right with the growing amount of people tipping a Suns win. I'm not used to it. Expectation has finally arrived and that puts a lot of pressure on our players and club. If we go down badly and GWS do well against Sydney the whole "GWS is miles ahead" thing will raise it's ugly head in a big way.

On the bright side any potential loss by us tonight will be forgotten in light of the Lions dreadful performance against the Dogs - how pathetic have they been?

Terrible. Can't forget how good the dogs have been though, their pressure is second to none. Great seeing Ayce Cordy taking some nice contested grabs. Maybe a sign of things to come for Sammy Day ;)
