Should almost guarantee we don't finish in 18th spot if things get a little ugly tonight.
 
Yeah the doggies have been on fire. Their pressure has been savage. Lions still look susceptible against pace. Hope the ball doesn't get too slippery so our young talls get every opportunity.

Just watching AFL Insider, where they said they would look at every clubs new acquisitions and see how they fit the team. Did every team except for us. Completely skipped over Broughton and Murphy, despite them being such game changers for us.

They then rolled some vision of two mistakes we did against the Saints and explained that they would need to be fixed in order for us to make the next step. That's it, nothing else. No credit given. Without knowing the result, you would actually think we LOST the match. This is a pivotal moment in our history. Round 1 game win against a side gunning for the 8, and no praise at all for any of our players bar Gaz. And even then it was how the Saints failed to man him up. No credit, no talk about how we've improved, nothing. Even Mark Robinson from the HS mentioned Rory Thompson in his Tackle column, but didn't get anything tonight on AFL Insider. In fact, that game as a whole, arguably one of the most exciting and stirring (if even for Ablett alone), didn't get more than thirty seconds coverage.

I shouldn't be surprised, but wow. Just wow.

I think everyone needs to keep the whole "media" reporting issue in perspective.

The majority of the reporting is either repeating what clubs let out (generally accurate), and then there seems to be a lot of speculating by various groups attempting to get noticed.

With so many football "reporter/experts" it is difficult to break a story. Hence why there is enormous amount of tripe written.

The only thing that actually matters at the end of the day is what the coaches/club think.

An example is how much press Kennett received for his comments on Clarkson. The guy by his own admission knows nothing about football, yet calls for the head of Clarkson after the first round. Do the rantings of a media grabbing "has been" really warrant that much press?

I reckon all fans of GCS should be very happy with its progress. There will definitely be some poor performances in 2013, however entering their third year in the AFL the GCS have done an amazing job.

I reckon Bluey would be quite content being out of the hype of the Victorian media and going about his business without that much scrutiny.

I think as a member/supporter and going through these tough times, that when we succeed, or hit a milestone you kind of feel like you want some positive feedback or reassurance, or even acknowledgement that "yes" we're moving in the right direction.

I think that's where the bitterness stems from in that regard as a member and supporter from the beginning.

The fact that we've just beaten a veteran club with good players in it, not to mention they were only in a grand final 2 years ago? We only started 2 years ago.

I hear what you are saying and understand your frustration on being over looked by the main stream media. However GCS is on the right track and will achieve success. This will make it all the more sweet!
 
Ricciuto is an absolute toss. Knows absolutely stuff all about us. He is disrespectful and dismissive of us as a club.

He's an imbecile too. I'd honestly wager that I know far more about footy than he does.

I hope we win today - I'll tweet the tool and let him know all about it.

Doubt he watched the game, let alone know any of our players that aren't named Gary Ablett.

I've only really just noticed people referring to segments of our team rather than specific players, getting the vibe that many people working in football don't actually know the names of any of our players.

As in "LRT will play a pivotal role in handling the Gold Coast Suns forward line".

Haha so true! They don't know any of our players. Then Dicko takes a couple of grabs or something and they piggyback him and sort of 'claim' him as their guy and just get around him.
 
I hate it when people say they can't be bothered watching when we are losing. I feel like you don't deserve to share in the spoils of victory if you don't even care when we lose. To me, and to most other people, footy is not just about the W's and L's.

Definition of a fair weather supporter to me is if you stop watching when we are losing.

For people that are highly paid "professionals" it really is a joke. If I made that many errors or didn't know my stuff in my line of work I'd soon be out of a job. Most of these guys are just living on their past reputations as players. Study up boys that is if you know how to read. BT called so many of our players by the wrong name last week. He even called Aaron Hall "Rowe" at on stage. Who is Rowe?
On the bright side, as we improve and start to win we will gain more respect and they'll certainly learn to know us when we tear their teams to shreds!!
