Yeah that would piss me right off but I wouldn't write on FB.
 
I'd assume after 10 minutes you'd ask where your coffee was. Waiting an hour is a bit over the top ;)

Was thinking this morning the when our crop of 2010 draftees become restricted free agents we are going to get raided big time unless we are in premiership contention. By then it is likely that compo picks will be abolished so we will be in a world of pain if we don't get this coaching appointment right.

Aren't the compo picks still remaining for restricted players? The AFL should dump free agency by then as there will be some ridiculous offers coming up in the next 12 months. I can see the $$$ from the Eagles and Freo being stockpiled already for Swallow, Bennell, Matera.
I assume the first years of Jaeger and Jack Martin aren't included in total years at the club?

It's worse than you think. The AFLPA are pushing hard to decrease the years from eight to six to become eligible for free agency but it is understood nothing will happen until 2016. Do the maths and you'll realise this means the draft class of 2010 will become restricted free agents at the end of 2016. Players that are coming off in 2016 from the 2010 class - Dion Prestia, Sam Day, Tom Lynch and Tom Nicholls. Names that off contract at the end of 2015 - Zac Smith, Luke Russell, Daniel Gorringe, Rory Thompson, Trent McKenzie, Charlie Dixon, Matt Shaw and Seb Tape.

Now obviously those are some pretty big names who will all be (or about to turn) 24 years old when they become free agents at the end of 2016. Except for Zac Smith (26), Charlie Dixon (26) and Rory Thompson (25). This is where the list management staff are going to have to make their money by managing the player's salaries and keeping everyone happy. They also have to be careful with the contract they offer GAJ because it could easily cost them a young gun or two if they give him too much. No doubt some of those guys will be looking for more opportunities or better money elsewhere so it's inevitable some will leave but it's more so the fact that so many of them will be on the market at the same time that should scare Suns fans.

Compensation may be removed in its entirety by that point but it looks like only unrestricted compensation will be removed at the moment. That's one positive for the Suns.

If the worst case happens and 10 of our best 18 left how could that be good for the comp. the system is seriously flawed. BTW can't see the AFL bowing to the 6 year request, so it means every young gun coming into their prime will be leaving and we will create a 2 tear system of the elite clubs and the feeder clubs ( much like the NBA) many people myself included will walk away from the game

No doubt one or two may get squeezed out , but club has to push the message ala Hawks , take a little less for success.

It's where the league is heading mate. You have six years to do your best to convince your best player he should stay. Take LeBron James for example. Was the best player in the NBA when he was coming off contract with Cleveland and the Cavs continued to surround him with B grade talent like a washed up Shaq. He realised he wasn't going to get what he wanted with the Cavs so he left as a free agent and joined the Heat. The Cavs then went into rebuild mode and received the number 1 pick in the draft. They drafted a superstar in Kyrie Irving and then continued to draft young guys while they were at the bottom of the ladder. Then their moment came and they made use of their salary cap space to bring back LeBron. Then they traded and brought in another all star in Kevin Love. Now they look a strong chance to win a championship. Things can change very quickly. Even for the small teams.

You might be right about the two tiered system in the NBA but some teams do buck the trend and even win championships. San Antonio would be a good example of this. Certainly not a big market team but they were able to draft well and push a really positive team culture to allow their big guns like Tim Duncan to take less money and allow the team to push for another championship (which they achieved earlier this year). In NBA terms, the Suns would definitely be a small market team. The lifestyle factor mirrors that of the Miami Heat in the NBA so the important things for the Suns going into the future are making sure their facilities are always top notch and pushing a positive team culture. An upgrade to Metricon wouldn't go astray either as players always like playing in front of big crowds.

The NBA is changing from the two tiered system you mentioned anyway. I mean look at last season. None of the big teams (NY, LA and Boston) made the playoffs. The finals was contested between two teams that aren't considered to be big markets (Miami and San Antonio). The team getting the most attention right now is the Cleveland Cavaliers and they are certainly not a big market team. It's not all gloom and doom mate.
