Another number 1 pick and extra priority pick. Meanwhile GC play The like of ROSA and Ritz and complain no talent coming through or they are too skinny.
they wont get a priority pick. and we are better off playing to win than getting a draft pick 1 or 2 spots higher and losing every game. the chances of getting a megastar are pretty reasonable anywhere in the top ten.

I am.Not too worried about that , but who come in for the future , a team won't just gel , Risca and Rosa are not the future . Brisbane already push port , Collingwood and GC to two goal margin and play ok against GWS.

Better to play the experience. if they are the best available, and I'm yet to be convinced that they aren't best available for their roles. who cares if they are future or not. we only need worry about the now. if they aren't the best available in the future then they wont be playing. that's how building a successful club culture works.

Not sure about GC, GWS get Phil Davies , ward ,Mummy , Sciully , and that Collingwood dude , played Two finals already . GC players either injured or move back home or delisted .Really hard to talk about culture when you had a bad record and players moving out all the time .

Exactly. win games and its a place you are less likely to move away from. thus play best team, and at the moment Riska and Rosa are in our best team. we are arguing the same thing

Really did not matter , I just hope Afl don't give them any more priority pick , or that player must be mature age state league player .
They have more top 3 picks in there side than we do, they won’t be getting a priority pick. They are 3-5 years away from being a power again.

Does anybody else think that the Suns players who rushed from all over the ground to congratulate Goober and Charlie the Unicorn on their first goals could have conserved their energy for the final term? I mean, when Jesse Joyce scored his first AFL goal on the China trip, nobody even noticed.

We have been badly criticised for our playing groups body language and i tend to agree with that criticism....so I think it had to be done

It is pretty well documented that the Suns sunk too much money into Gaz and couldn't offer more top tier money, so flakes like Brennan and Hunt got paid more than they ever contributed and it will only be next year that the full salary cap will be available again to go shopping. In addition, the Giants had a way better recruitment pool and extra cap space to make them a desirable destination. Furthermore, the Giants big recruits have mostly retired - Stevie J, Mumford - or will be punted soon - Lids, Shaw. They are in strife right now with a growing injury list, lack of list depth and another 15 games to find their 16-17 form to contend again. Meanwhile, the Suns have reinvested the draft picks traded for wantaway players and drafted/traded/signed an impressive amount of players since 2014 to rebuild around a solid core of players that are challenging for relevance again.

Purely tongue in cheek. I was hooting and hollering when Ballard's goal sailed over my head, waving the giant flag like a madman. Huge difference to China, where all the players looked like they didn't even want to be there, let alone get around a battling Rookie.

4th quarter the lads looked rooted but they still gave it everything.

Personally, I am more worried about Giants future than Suns. When Giants played Lions at home they were top 4 on the ladder and only 10K showed up! I would expect when Suns will be in top 4 any home game would be 20K+.

They had a finals game last year and Spotless was maybe half full.

One thing I can guarantee is that a Suns Finals appearance at home would be a Carrara full house.

There are a few things that will ultimately grow the Giants supporter base. Firstly, all the young kids in the area play Rugby League, but like Kieran Jack, they are gravitating towards AFL because the Polynesian kids are twice their size and there are about a million of them. Secondly, the AFLW is vastly increasing female participation, and we already know that a large proportion of AFL fans are women, so the Giants will gather more fans organically by being behind junior development for boys and girls. Probably the biggest thing will be that the Swans are the country's most widely supported team, while the Giants are the least, so this will somewhat equalise with time. I hate to say it, but success will breed larger crowds and members - hate it that the QLD Sports Minister is sort of right - but ultimately the AFL won't just give up on GWS because they've invested too much. If the Suns and Giants represent an extra game per week in the mega billions paid in broadcasting fees, then the AFL isn't even losing the money it invests because that extra 11% wouldn't be justified if there were only 16 teams.

Umpiring momentum killers everywhere tonight, and inconsistencies rampant. Swallow should have had about 5 free kicks that he wasn't given, none more so than when he was fouled attempting to mark 15m out in front of goal, even though Martin goalled straight after. Gawn was all over Witts, dragging him down, tunnelling him under marks and throw ins, at one stage I heard an umpire call out that Witts and Gawn were both fouling each other so it was play on! Even more bizarre was when the Suns got pinged for holding the ball when two Suns players had a piece of the ball and wrestled each other to the sideline - there is no way that was holding the ball! Melbourne were micro kicking the ball all game and never got called for it not being 15m - which is about 7 of Witts' wingspans.

But one that sticks in my craw was when the umpire pinged Aaron Hall for running too far. What Hall did was actually a feature of the game that people pay to see, with his running and evasive skills on show. Watch the highlights of the match winning goal by Motlop where he runs in a similar pattern, but for about 25m without bouncing. It was running too far any day of the week, but people don't pay to come and see the umpires blowing their whistles in those situations. If they did give a free kick against Motlop with 50 seconds to go and the Crows leading by a point the Port fans would have rioted and there'd be burning and looting in the streets. But it was running too far...

I rather watched one way running NeAfl game than scoring 4 behind for the whole match .

Gee our win against North with a healthy (not quite, but better than now) list round 1 is looking more impressive with each week. reluctant to say we will be a much better side in the second half of the season just because of home games, but if we get a fit and healthy list going at the same time, we could potentially notch up 8 - 12 wins for the season imo

I understand that people want to blame the travel and no doubt it has had some effect but in my mind we are kidding ourselves that this is the main issue. We simply don’t have the cattle.

It’s also scary to think that Scrimshaw is along way off and Brodie seems to be too one dimensional.

That's why I thought there was some merit in offering Andrew Swallow a one year contract. We have these young players that are a long way off still (Scrimshaw & Powell) and knew we had a difficult draw. He could've helped develop them on-field in the NEAFL & come into the team when players were tiring.
