Yes we are too slow and have been for a long time. Good to see though that the MC can see this- Pearce, Tutt, Howard, Vez, Grant have all come in and we are no longer playing 4 talls in the forward line.

Now we need some speed in the midfield- Boyd, Libba, Wallis, Cross, Picken not a lightning quick combo.

Good post.

Our forward line looked good in the first half because we moved the ball quickly and Cordy had a good first half as did the rest of our forward line. In the second half very slow ball movement allowed Carlton to crowd the bacline and run the ball out easily which results in our forwards falling in a hole and Carlton scoring easy goals.

I would like to know why we changed our play and I assume its our players who lack the skills and the confidence.

Lastly our midfield was smashed again.
It was because Carlton threw an extra man behind the play about half way through the game. For a while we continued to do fast transitions and were just kicking it to their advantage only to see it come straight back ... often for a Carlton score.

In consequence two things happened that made it an unattractive game:
1. We too played an extra man in the back half, compounding the congestion/rebounding at either end.
2. Our players (presumably under instruction) stopped delivering quickly and instead went looking for the short spot-up within scoring range ... the intended end result of all that ugly sideways short-passing, probing for an opening. We just didn't execute it well.

However offsetting this, the intensity of both sides went up toward the end and there were some very willing contests. That provided a bit of entertainment value.

So do we lack the skills/ability/confidence? In this area of play I'd say yes. There has to be another way to break the lines without delivering to a 3-on-2 or 5-on-4 contest (which we will lose about 70-80% of the time). Unfortunately it requires several of the things we don't yet have much of, and are hoping to draft, namely speed, evasive skills in congestion, accurate delivery, forward smarts & organisation and the ability to find space/lead-up in a packed forward 50.

Does this mean BM was outcoached? Not necessarily. Ratts pulled the right lever and we didn't have the player skills to provide a suitable tactical response. Hard to blame BM for that.

Cross may turn the ball over at times but hey at least he gets the bloody thing, This may be a novel way to approach the game for the remainder of the year. "get the ball and run run run , kick to a space if there is no option and continue to run run run. oh by the way have a traditional forward line to at least provide a target and if you don't win the contest then defend like crazy to keep it in there. At the moment we win possession in the back half , have no one down the ground so we chip it around until some one creates a stuff up , e.g Cordy's dinky little 15 meter pass along the ground, or murp missing griffin from 20 meters. In other words kick the living suit case out of it and play on at all times.I guess this game plan would be easy to follow and a little more attractive for us suffering supporters to at least appreciate.Oh and if this game plan works than there would be two three players on the move to accept the ball from Cross after he has won possession.

I'll start with positives. Dahlhaus, Libba and Wallis are the future of the club. The negatives, I truely believe that 80% of our current list won't be at the club in 5 years.
I won't talk any more about the rest as most of you have already said it all here. What really pissed me off no end last night, and no f****** one is talking about it which is giving me the shits, is the 'incident' that costs us the game. Someone please explain to me why the play wasn't stopped by the idiot umpire when that clown Carlton idiot ran on to the ground about 5 metres from where Dahlhaus was taking his free kick for goal? Whether he kicked a goal or not, play should've been stopped right away, wait for the security staff to take the idiot off the ground, then Dahlhaus re-takes his kick. I am still to this point, bewildered at the umpire not knowing the bloody rules, and I will ring up SEN radio tomorrow to ask if they know. The AFL have done a good job of covering it up as usual. Bloody disgrace, and ruined the night for me.

Even though it's better we lost in terms of gaining draft picks 5 and 6, I believe that incident cost us any chance of winning the game. It also broke the hearts of a lot of Bulldog supporters who would've taken a bit of heart in the fact that we won another game for the year. Don't think we can win another now which will mean 10 consecutive losses in a row to finish off the year. F*****n crooks that club we played, and any idea who runs the ground and who was playing? Bloody conspiracy!

Demetriou couldn't care less about our club. It's one set of rules for the fat cat pigs and a set for the rest. Smorgonshould lodge an official complaint, but he's far too quite to take the fight to the afl. Demetriou and co will back the umpires and tell us that it's our problem to live with

Someone has the rose tint on their glasses. The "signs" you're so enamoured with are the 5 regulation marks he's able to take (if he's lucky)? Or is it the abysmal disposal?

Looking every bit the journeyman at best. He may well turn out decent enough, but letting him get slaughtered every week in the AFL isn't the answer. Make him earn a spot in our shocking forward line at Willi, which shouldn't be too hard given these mysterious "signs" a few people are on about, but fail to expand upon.

I wish him the very best, but come on. Be sensible.

So who are you comparing Ace against - Barry Hall? Then no wonder he falls so short in your expectations:rolleyes:

Would like to see a bit of noise over it TBH. Would be surprised if we created any though, our admin just do not have it in them.

You can't be serious can you?

Tutt 6 Games (3 as sub)
Cordy 13 Games
Pearce 3 Games
Howard 13 Games
Roughead 29 Games
Wood 39 Games
Vezpremi 13 Games

Just over 100 games in total there what do you expect them to do? Get a game and be as good as Gary Ablett and Chris Judd? Give them a chance FFS half these kids arent even 21 yet you cant expect them to be winning games when they are so young? Unless you can enlighten me which players you know dominate week in week out with less than 50 games under their belt?

No i don't expect them to be as good as Ablett or Judd. I EXPECT THEM TO BE BETTER THAN CURNOW, COLLINS, BELL, CASBOULT, WATSON, DALE, MCINNES. They weren't!!!! This is my point.

i also expect them to be better than Russell, Bower, Thornton and Joseph. ****en Dale who played 15mins showed more than DJ, Cordy, Gilbee and Pearce did all game.

sad, isnt it.. Imagine if that had of happened to Collingwood during a finals match. McGuire would be on the phone to Demetriou quicker than you could say wtf

Admittedly, we will probably lose every game left. But simply for team and supporter morale, we needed a win. Piss poor crowd again shows EVERYONE we are in the shit. Another loss to a poor team (through injury/suspension) means we have taken another step back. So I'm just gonna say it, obviously we aren't going to win, so why not throw the kids out there and see what's on offer?!?! Cordy isn't up for the role he's been asked to do, after so many chances TRY Panos! Give JJ a run in place of Howard who could do with a spell at Willi, play the future and make the older players EARN their spot again instead of taking it for granted. The line needs to be drawn already, didn't expect success this season but ****, not this type of footy

Howard was good -you doomsday supporters give it a rest saying drop Cordy for panos is dumb he can't kick goals on duds in vfl way to small -we need to look to future and that means any player that can't run chase or kick is gone!!!! Gia,cross,Gilbee, hargraves have been champions of the the club but lady time has caught them

I live os so can't see any reserves games, but it seems Panos isn't doing anything in the 2's from all reports, so i would like to hear from those who watch willy why it is everyone keeps asking for him to be promoted. I would like to see him in action if he really has something to offers, just not seeing him kick many goals or in the best too often for Willy.

Good to see Tutt get a full run did some good things in glimpses. Might be time to bring in Jones and Roughy, give cordy one week off try a mix of things.

Perfect summation of the issue. Many still don't seem to get it.

Carlton had three debutants, at least two of which played their role well. Most of our newbies played poorly. Apparently that is ok because newer players cannot just come in and play their role well?????????????? Our expectations and Carltons expectations are different. Seems they always will be.

So, we're playing a guy (Cordy) who's either clearly not up to it, or playing him completely out of position "just because". Nothing personal, but I can't stand this turd-polishing attitude. We're rewarding a guy who is playing absolutely awfully by ensuring he's untouchable at the selection table, when there are clearly better alternatives. This will not help the side long-term.

Certainly we are not playing him just because. They are trying to get games into him, teach him on the job and he has a lot to learn. Even though he's not tearing the games apart yet, there are signs with him. The alternative is not to play the kids and get not games into them. I'd rather this approach and of course I want to see others given similar chances. Cords will eventually make way for someone else I suspect, but it's great they are giving him a decent run and the kid will learn fast, and we won't die wondering neither will he.

I don't blame a lot of the kids, I blame the coaching staff. There was a play on sat night where someone, can't remember who, marked the ball on a fast break lol, Tutt started running into the forward 50, then instead of running to the goal square where he should of, he ran straight towards the man who was kicking the ball! FFS, what's wrong? Are they getting told not to kick goals? Another one which bewildered me was young Pearce was 40 out on the boundary running into goal, should've had a shot 'cause everyone inside were covered, but he stops and tries to pass it in, resulting in a terrible kick and turnover. I seriously give up watching us in the hope of winning any more games for the year with that mentality just crazy.

Cordy is 202cm, so slow is relative. Hes very agile and I like the way he goes about it. I see him as more a lurking in the goal square type of player, whereas Jones is best leading up the ground. Neither of these guys is getting results just now, but I think they will make it with more development under their belts.

Ha ha, poor bugger. He comes from Adelaide so don't think so. I watched the final day and I don't know how he lost it. Bit like us in 97!

I just hope that Adam Scott isn't a Bulldogs supporter........he has suffered enough already.
I wish I could suffer while banking 27mil in career earnings o_O

I remember Geelong persisted for a long time and copped much criticism while Tom Hawkins was developing

Spot on. Between one of Ayce, Grant and Cordy we will get a gun forward. Maybe even one ok forward as well.
