Vent thread vs pies

what i found disturbing was a few pies supporters around us at the game were actually feeling sorry for us. it was one of only 2 games i have ever been to at the gabba where i considered leaving early (i didn't). my son and i just sat there shaking our heads all night with pies supporters all around laughing and commenting (we didn't bite, never do). some comments from pies supporters-

this is just too easy.
i feel sorry for them.
this is half our VFL side.
24,000 crowd, we get that to training sessions.
collinggggggwoooood, USA USA USA USA.

thank god aish didn't play, we probably would have played him into form. also we made cox and white look like lockett and dunstall:$

Hi boys and girls
Long time watcher of bigfooty. Signed up because of the laughs to have at the Bay.
But what I saw last night was pure hysterical despair.
Ill give a unprofessional review.

What a %*@!#^(* disgrace.
Witches hats have more soul and integrity.
That first half was Geelong vs Melbourne 2011.
At least Geelong were a great team playing at home.
Brisbane played the Pies (ordinary side with lots of players out) and they treated us with utter contempt.

What is with the blow up lion? It looks like a jumping castle at Scarborough Fair. Why don't they hand out fairy floss for the players instead of drink canisters. Who came up with this idea? Fairy floss has more substance than the Brisbane Lions FC. All of they players should refuse to be paid for that performance or give all of it to charity.

If Collingwood would have kicked straight it would have been over 100 points at half time. They could have bounced on that inflatable king of the jungle for the third quarter and they still could have won the game in the fourth with ease. That performance should win the lions the Golden Globe for best comedy ( they don't have tragedy as a category). With the playing group wining best actor ( or should they get a razzie instead ) and Leppa getting the best ( should be worst) director.

Lets get on to Leppa. My grandmother would have been a better choice. She's been dead for 20 years. That performance in the box was Neeld like. You can't get a worse recommendation. He might be a good bloke. He might have done a great Power Point Presentation in front of Leigh and the suits. But he hasn't got it. Simple as that. An Apple laptop would be preferable and much more cost effective too.

A lot of the players are not AFL standard. They ain't NEAFL standard either. Trained by Shane WOEWOEFUL what do you expect! "No heart, no guts, no balls", that should be the motto for this lot. They should come out on to the field with the song " The Great Pretender " blaring out of the speakers instead of the Lions theme song. The auskick kids should have replace the team at half time. Would have put in a better performance.

Leigh, Greg Swan, and every person involved in the day to day running of the Club should organize an emergency meeting on Monday. A honesty session whereby everyone can have their say about what is going wrong. Because it doesn't look like anything is going right. Then they should tell the AFL they need help. Exhibit A : Last Nights Game. Tell them they need a lot more assistance, otherwise if they want a presence in Brisbane, they will have to run the club from top to bottom by 2020.

You could say a lot more but the game said it better than anyone else could. A coach killing performance. Ill be amazed if Leppa has not been shown the out door at the end of the season. I think a lot of fans would have already gone through it.

Cheers. :)

Leppa needs to be sacked right now. Only that will subdue my anger a bit. Bucks stops with him, not midfielders.

Most of my entertainment last night came from the essendon fan I brought with me.

Most of the end of the game was spent looking at pictures of my deceased pets, and of the one living one I have left. Also showing the aforementioned essendon fan my blood donation photos (she's been the recipient of many transfusions).

I am so glad Patfull ****ed off to the Giants now, at least I have one team that can actually play!

The first bounce said it all - it was like no one gave a fast flying ****. Might as well have not had a team out there!

I've started 5 separate rants deleted and started again cause I can't decide what one to go with that accurately sums up how I feel about this football club right now.

- our "marquee" players are putrid. How much are we forking out for Rich? Hanley? 500,000? 600,000? We have to pay ordinary footballers overs just to keep them here. Which is destroying us.

- no one in their right mind who is in their prime will ever agree to a trade to come up here. Unless they want an easy pay day. Which means they are coming here for the wrong reasons - not for a fresh start.

- Does not matter the player we draft, they will either leave or not develop in our system and won't fulfill their potential.

- We are that easy to play against its not even funny. So so predictable.

I will be at the MCG next week but why should I?

****, we really have lost a generation of young fans haven't we? Like if you're a 15yr old kid why would you bother? - you'd only remember the Lions making finals once in your life.

Hasn't Hanley been putrid for most of the season. He had a great Q Clash but has been pretty poor apart from that. Rich is what he is unfortunately. He feeds off others when we really need him to be able to create himself.

Hi guys.

I hope you'll forgive a magpie for coming here (to the vent thread, of all threads). Commiserations on the loss. We've had a woeful year so far so I know how it feels!

I'm an on-and-off qld resident and have just settled here for the long term with my young family. I'm concerned about the state of the game here and would prefer to see a competitive Lions outfit than a struggling one.

The good work done at grass roots level will be undone if local kids don't want to follow the Lions. My kids have black and white in their veins and will have to battle against having their friends bang on about the Broncos at school, but they'll have me and the Collingwood Army to keep them excited and involved in the game. Trips to the G for ANZAC Day etc. It worked for me growing up in Canberra during the glory days of the Raiders.

What I fear for is the patience of the casual young Lions supporter. You guys are obviously a loyal bunch, but 12 years without looking like tasting success is too long up here, just as it would be in Sydney. It's disheartening to hear of kids giving up on the Lions. Much as I enjoy beating you guys, I don't want you to lose any more footing up here.

I sincerely wish your all the best in turning it around, for the sake of footy in Queensland.

All the best for next week.

You're spot on mate

We get pasted by you guys, Broncos spank manly by 4 tries

QLD win origin every year basically.

Not hard to imagine where the kids will gravitate

What really worries me is how long are the quality players going to hang around for? Martin Rich Zorko etc, the team environment must stink at the moment with no light at the end of the tunnel and these guys are not getting any younger, once the belief dies and with other clubs circling with cheque books at the ready it must be tempting for these guys to make the move to a competative club with a crack at going deep into september.

How are we paying that player group 95% of what the Hawks and Cats pay their lists? Gross incompetence and mismanagement.

This is a vent thread (for Lions supporters) to be as reactionary as they like. It isn't a gateway for opposition supporters to come and say "Hey, you guys are shit." just because most in here might agree.
We know our team dished up shit, and don't need opposition supporters pointing it out to us on our own board, thanks.

Im a Melbourne supporter but just needed to drop by. What I saw tonight was so bad that I just couldnt not leave a comment. I cannot believe what I was watching. And ive seen a lot as a dees fan. Im not trying to be a smartarse or have a dig, but that was absolutely pathetic. What on earth is Leppa doing with this lot?

Beams, stef, rocky, zorko, hanley are your only good players. End of story. Not one other player should be playing AFL. The rest are insipid.
So should we tank then ? When you guys did it, was that a good move ?

Because the AFL thinks that's "fairer" - it's "better" to overpay average players on crap teams than for them to actually have free salary cap to lure players.

Maybe you could get your president to see it that way .. footy has failed to grab the locals and Eddie loves it that way. He's still grinding on about 2002. And came back when you've experienced your team actually disappear. Dead team walking. Now to plunder the list.

So what are you doing posting here ? Make you feel good ? Troll.
Well, I guess I'm just looking for some answers as to what the hell is going on with the players...Does anyone know? Have they had enough of the coach? Teams don't usually put that display out unless something is not right. Apologies if it came off the wrong way.

Young list.. sometimes it's going to take a hammering... sometimes it's not..The problem's on whether we can execute a game plan when our basic skills aren't there or just not happening...

As you would know as the Dees have had their fair share of misery.. On the upside it has resulted in getting some very nice draft picks...We may well be mimicking that..:$

Yesterday morning I was cursing my ill fortune in that my daughter's wedding clashed with the Collingwood game last night.

This morning I was thanking my lucky stars to have missed one of the all time putrescent performances from my once proud club.

The wedding and reception were fabulous.

I went OTT last night and I apologise publicly to Dlanod now, as I did privately last night.

My youngest boy has already given the sport away because he does not rate it. My older boy is hanging in there but i think that is because he thinks it pleases me. To be honest, my interest in the footy is waning. This season may be the first since the Lions have formed that I will not attend a game. My apathy mainly relates to how the game is run and how unauthentic it has become.

Last night was unforgivable.

That's all.

Hi everyone, as you can tell I don't post here much but I have been supporting the Bears-Lions from a distance since 1990 and I'm beginning to think I can't handle it any more.

Today I got the "Leaders' Digest" email (like many here did too, I expect), this time apparently written by Tom Rockliff. Maybe he wrote it all himself, maybe it was ghost-written, or maybe he wrote it and it was "vetted" by the Corp Comms department. To my eye the vernacular of the weekly Leaders' Digest emails is suspiciously consistent, and from my experience with corporate communications I would be surprised if someone in the organisation had not "vetted" it at the very least, but perhaps the leaders actually write the email themselves, I really don't know.

But I was concerned by what I read. I think it speaks volumes about what is going on at the club. Here below I offer my comments on that email: words, phrases, and underlying attitude I would have preferred to read and infer, rather than what was actually written.

What follows is IN NO WAY a criticism of Tom Rockliff himself, I want to make that clear. He's my favourite Lion and I wish him all the best. Here goes:

"We'd gone into last night's match hopeful." I would prefer to read "determined", "confident", "resolute", or "vengeful".

"...we were confident going in we had a game-plan we could match against Collingwood". What about a game-plan which gives you confidence you can beat them.

"Unfortunately we started poorly..." Luck has very little to do with it. We have been starting poorly for years and years and years. Blaming luck is avoiding reality.

"...and never really got a look in..." You want Collingwood to play nice and give you a look in? Nasty Collingwood, not giving you a look in, how mean of them. It's a stock phrase, but to me it reveals an underlying attitude problem.

"It definitely wasn't the result we wanted". Ok, you wanted to win, I understand that. But did you really want it? Really? Because watching the game, it really didn't look like it.

"If you look at the group..." I hate that term "group". You're supposed to be a TEAM for Cliff's sake.

"...energy was down..." what, again? More gastro? What are you talking about? If there's one game in the season etc. etc. I don't need to elaborate, we all know what I'm getting at.

"...the unwillingness to play roles continued last night." This is perhaps the most telling clause in the whole text. What is he saying here? Does it suggest the players are fed up with being played out of position? Or that they just aren't buying in to the structures? Or they don't have respect for the leaders, or the coaches? The "unwillingness to pay roles continued...." Really????? Unwillingness? What the hell is going on?????

"...once the team jumps you early on..." So they are a "team", we are a "group". And anyway, we should be very familiar with going behind early by letting other teams get the jump on us, it's happened several times a season, every season, for about decade now. We should be the best team in the league at dealing with that situation.

"We were lucky they didn't kick straight..." There's that appeal to Lady Luck again. When we start poorly it's because of bad luck, but when they don't kick straight, it's down to good luck. Right.

"Our focus for the next match is hard to tell initially..." Here's my suggestion: winning.

"I think you'll see a spirited effort next week." You "think" we'll see a spirited effort? That's nice, but why aren't you certain we'll see a spirited effort? Maybe it's for the same reason that I, too, am not certain of that. Why should we believe you anyway? We didn't see a spirited effort this week, or last week. Granted, the Swans and Suns games offer evidence that the "group" can put it together, but it speaks volumes that the writer feels the need to reassure us on effort. We're regularly told that the team is going to put in a better effort "next week", and here we go again. There must be a difference that I am unaware of between getting thrashed by Port and getting thrashed by Collingwood which is for some reason going to produce a spirited effort against Melbourne next week.

"Stick with us." Been doing that for 26 years. The triple was great. Winning a final against Carlton was very satisfying. But holy crap, that first quarter, against that opposition, was that bad, that "stick with us" rings very, very hollow after all this time of "we're young", "we're re-building", "we're on track", "we've got lots of injuries", "we've got a tough draw", "we travel a lot", "the coach needs time", "the players need to adjust to the new system", "we've got forwards but no midfield", "we've got a midfield but no forwards", "so-and-so will be great once we get some games into him", "QLD's not a footy state" (for some reason that excuse doesn't apply to Brisbane Roar), and on and on and on.

I'm sorry everyone, I realise I'm over-analysing an email. It's just an email. I hope what I have written doesn't upset anyone. But I'm close to being fed up with this.

Probably one of the best posts i have read on BigFooty.

Maybe a touch over analysed but i suppose your right.
