For my own peace of mind, I wouldn't mind getting this Veterans List thing sorted out once and for all.

I am indebted to Frodo's post on the main AFL board which shows the following link to the Veterans List rule:
http://www.afl.com.au/lib/acrobat/fsheets/aflfac31.pdf

My reading of this is that age is irrelevant (for the Eagles) - it's just 10 years of service. If that's right, aren't Jako & Milli, as well as Tommy & Roo, eligible for 2002 (next year)?. I'm sure I remember them smiling in Eagles jumpers around September 1992.

If so, this would be a big salary saving.

VOR,

Kempy and Roo are our 2 veterans this year. We are allowed a list of 38 + 2 veterans, ie 40 in total. I am not sure how long they are allowed to stay on the list, 2 years max I think. So with Kempy about to retire that means Roo and probably Milli or Jako will go on the list next year - although lists are being cut again so it will probably be 35 + 2 veterans.

Actually, the AFL has backflipped on this, and will not cut the lists for season 2002, they may even raise them to 40. This is due to the Eagles and Saints using almost all their players on the list, and having such a long injury list!

it happened a while ago now. At the time, it was in response to last years injuries. I did actually read it at AFL.com.au then, and heard it on the radio, can't remember the station though.
