I had to leave at quarter time.

Geelong kicked into a stiff breeze in the first. The report says Werribee finished with the wind so maybe with the lights down for a bit they didn't change ends for the fourth quarter.

So just first Q mind:
Duncan was very good in the first quarter and looked to be fit and firing. Didn't shirk any physical stuff.
Henderson also obviously a class above.
It was hard to pick out O'Connor at the other end and Close didn't have many opportunities .

Capiron caught my eye again and it was good to see him named as the results came in. He was injured a couple of years ago from memory when he was playing well. Looked really down on form when I saw him last (pretty sure he played a game or two last year).
Back to his best on the snapshot I saw last night. Outside mid, smooth running, good kick, good overhead for size.

Thanks CW
Good to hear about Duncan. Really need him. I suspect they may give him an extra week but I’d be tempted to play him even if he is only at 80-90% fitness.
Incidentally - in your time at the game, did you notice whom (if any) of the first (other than Close) and second year draftees played?

Out of all Geelong afl listed players only, Henry, Duncan, O’Connor, Henderson and Close played

Seemingly the only players deemed to be in need of a run who are still seriously under consideration to play in the seniors in Round 1.

Interesting to think that Close is clearly in the MC's thoughts, then. I haven't seen much of the action but I wasn't sure he'd shown all that much over the two Marsh games or in last night's hit-out either.

Club maybe keeping its options open to maintain our run of 'Round 1 debut' stories for another year.

With the VFL suspended I hope Parsons left his gear at Colac, may as well sign a 5 year deal done there
Wow! Part of the virus fall out no doubt. Wonder who the other team is.

Carlton and Melbourne are having a VFL practice match sat any news if we are having a match?

Coach confirmed in today's presser that there's no hit-out this weekend. He said they will have a match of some sort next weekend, though.

Covid-19 protocols

This is from an AFLW article yesterday regarding the 2020 VFLW season, but explains the reasoning for changes to both VFL & VFLW this year:

With ten of the 12 VFLW clubs affiliated to an AFL Club, the competition was unable to proceed in its traditional format. This is the same for the VFL men’s competition which will feature eight clubs due to AFL-listed players being unavailable to play in the VFL competition. The current AFL protocols permits only approved players and staff who form part of the current AFL program to attend their club venues. These players and staff undergo regular COVID-testing and must comply with the AFL’s Return to Play protocols. The

So the VFL side misses out because of the alignment to the AFL team -
That seems understandable to a point.. but surely they could train and play isolated.
maybe I’m making it all too simple.. but still..

Sucks for the 26-46 AFL listed guys

Can't say I like it but thanks 4 the reply.

I'm not sure they played today because of the change in circumstances and the club flying to Sydney for the hub

Confirmed there was no scratch match this past weekend:

Geelong was unable to get a scratch match in on Saturday as Victorian teams hurried to fly out of the state amid fears there would be further lockdowns on suburban hot spots, meaning non-selected players endured an extended training run instead.
