VFL 2021

All those silly early season byes, up to 6 teams a week, when Covid was still hanging around (although Victoria was out of lockdown) is now starting to bite.

If this comp survives into 2022, play as many games as possible early and bank them in case it blows up later.

Hopefully lockdowns aren't a factor in 2022.
Never understood why so many byes and just an 18 game season (16 this year). VFL/AFL reserves always played 22 games.

Just cancel the season. Playing a grand final with no finals series, with an incomplete season, with the team in second not even having a chance to compete, etc. would be a farce

Werribee as 9th placed team on stand by should Southport not be able to participate due to travel reasons if games allowed on Fathers Day weekend

How unfair is that though? Southport have worked hard all year and get top 2 yet cannot play and 9th team get in. Surely the AFL look to get travel exemptions from the QLD government

Hopefully:

Footscray vs GWS Giants (Whitten Oval)
Southport vs Collingwood (Metricon Stadium)
Box Hill vs Williamstown (Box Hill City Oval)
Geelong Cats vs Casey (Alphabet Stadium)

Matthew Hammelman from Aspley is first player In 144 year history of VFA/VFL to win “Frosty” Miller Medal for leading goal kicker in a wooden spoon team. He kicked 42 goals in 10 goals

Harsh on both clubs. So Werribee keep training even though they may not play?
Better to just shuffle the teams around and give Footscray the forfeit as minor premier.
Footscray straight into prelim
3 v 8 Box Hill vs GWS
4 v 7 Geelong vs Collingwood
5 v 6 Casey v Willi
