but won’t stump up a couple of hundred grand to help out one of the original VFA clubs.
I'm going to assume that they will stump up a couple of hundred grand to bail them out and pay off their debts to pay players, etc but didn't see a future, which based on the past few years, is very much fair enough

Well, not shocked, and the old nuts could complain about this but it's probably about time. I hope this helps out teams like Coburg and not AFL aligned clubs. JL will be a big watch to see what he does there
It comes down to cash……protect your revenue streams and you avoid that scrutiny for now…

Disgusting decision by the AFL Gestapo. Preston asked them to pay off their debt of around $270,000 and they decided to punt them our of the league. They were happy to pay some rapper between 2 to 5 million, keep pouring money into Gold Coast and pour money into the AFLW which continues to haemorrhage money. If the AFL want a ressies AFL then do it already.
The AFLW's existence has does a lot for women participating at a grassroots level. Without it I wouldn't be surprised if 90% or more of the grassroots women's teams currently operating would have never existed.

The AFL's disinterest in the survival of the VFA standalone clubs predates the AFLW by many years. The AFLW is not rortintg funds away from VFL standalones, the reality is that the AFL simply does not care about our clubs and even in a hypothetical world where there was no AFLW, that money still wouldn't be going into our clubs. Throwing money on Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg to do grand final gigs was a far worse move by the AFL than establishing a women's league.

Damo Barrett gets $250, 000 a year from the AFL , give that turd the arse

Terrible for the club and those involved.

I wonder and hope if they can amalgamate somehow with the Preston Bullants amateur club in order to preserve the club's presence and identity. If they can bring assets, sponsorship, the ground and some volunteers to the equation then it could be attractive for the amateur club, who are pretty big in their own right - in addition to seniors and reserves they have Under 19s, thirds, masters and women. The aligned junior club also has 14 teams.

They're only about 15 years old but have already been as high as Premier C, so there's something there. It's not the VFL but in time it could be something pretty cool and it would retain the history.

They are well run

Trying to catch up with the news, is the Bullant's licence suspended (like Frankston's was) or permanently cancelled with no possibility of return?
There hasn't been an official statement by the AFL yet as far as I know. Preston's statement uses the word "terminated" which suggests a finality.

I wasn't closely involved with Frankston in 2016. Was our licence actually suspended or cancelled outright? My impression had been that the club's licence was formally taken away and we had to go through the application process for a new VFL licence, but maybe I'm wrong.

Brayden Preuss ex North / GWS ruck signs at Willy after the retirement of Tom Downie

Sickening news today.
Understandably, just as the club was reverting back to its original name and another chapter. Incredibly sad, 143 years old, AFL doesn't care.

My AFL, VFL and EPL clubs have all come within a whisker of going out of business, I don't take them for granted any more.

Gill the Dill getting Meatloaf to do a halfbaked pre-game entertainment show was a joke. I don't mind the AFLW at all. I reckon it's money well spent considering that women make up more than 50% of the Australian population. I'd prefer to see the AFL throwing more money at the AFLW and treating it like a proper league instead of some post season entertainment. You know is the real waste of money by the AFL... the phat bonus cheques they write themselves at the end of the year after another "profitable" year for the mens league. That's the real waste of money.

Permanently cancelled. Probably making space for a licence for the Tassie VFL team.

I've been barracking for the Bullants since I was old enough to realise that there was another league that didn't have Carlton in it. We lived in Thornbury at the time. I loved Doc Reid when he played for us. I even got his signature after he'd saved my mum's life at PANCH.

Seeing the AFL just yanking the licence from the club is heartbreaking. This is complete bullshit.

if this was true, they wouldn't have given st kilda a licence

get off your crackpot
I didn't realise that the Aints were going standalone from next year after ending their association with Sanderingham. I guess we know where the Preston licence actually went hey.

Now jog off tosser.

acktuhally the AFL split the preston licence down in the middle and handed half to st kilda and half to tasmania for next year

they're both going to be as good as preston have been anyway

Your club were the largest contributors to killing Preston, and you try and shift the blame to another.
